Model S vs Model 3 Maintenance?

So Ive read in various places that a Model S will cost significantly more to maintain than a Model 3, but I do not understand why this would be the case.

I understand that the Model S has a more complicated suspension and door handle system. Also the tires may be more expensive to replace, and brakes whenever that comes. But other than these things, maintenance should be equal to the Model 3, no?

How much do you all spend on maintenance per year on average?

It's not "maintenance" that is so different, but repairs. The S is a lower volume, more premium car and parts that fail will generally be more expensive. This is not a phenomenon unique to Tesla, though. Failure rates may also be higher for the earlier cars as some parts are earlier in their development lifecycle. The reliability of some of these got better over time, like the battery and fuse. Some did not, like the large rear drive unit.
