Model X Subsite Updates

Major change in the web page (finally) is a BIG Deal !

Obviously I hope you are right. They might, however, just be updating the Model S site and keeping the Model X component consistent. I think if there's one thing we know, its that we don't know!
Did you look at the site? Nothing about the Model X page is the same. They gutted it to a paragraph. Meaning new info coming. They would not do that just to put up same exact info that was there a few days ago.

In the US at least, I do not think the average car buyer makes a distinction between a full size sedan and a full size sedan with a hatch. Both are big four door cars with a trunk.

I'm not sure that's true. The common wisdom in the US market is that big hatchbacks don't sell (remember the Merkur Scorpio?)

I think the A7, Panamera, and Model S have started to change that perception, but here for whatever reason people seem to be fine with SUVs but want their cars to have trunks.

The wood exterior has been a running joke ... it's not a big thing here, either. (My request for a Hello Kitty interior is also a joke, just in case anyone thinks I'm serious.)

The last instance I can find of any wood exterior paneling is a single vehicle in 1993.

I hoped my extra second smiley would convey that I did get it was a running joke. :)

Jokes are best explained, right? ;) It was my poor attempt at a play on the current American dislike of station wagons vs. European like of them, the inside joke on wood-paneled Model X on TMC, plus the fact that personally my recollections of wooden exterior come from old American station wagons.

Agreed I think the perception is changing and you give good examples of why.

I used to own a Merkur, which in the US was called the X4ti. I loved the additional functionality and carrying capacity in a mid-size car.

I think something really is brewing. If you change the URL on the Model S Design Studio to mimic what it would be for the Model X, it redirects to the Model X landing page.

DJ, why do you think that means something is going to happen. Could it not be that a developer built into the website the fact that if modelx is detected in url then direct to model x 'home page'?

I think it is interesting that
Code:
http://my.teslamotors.com/modelx/design
redirects to
Code:
http://www.teslamotors.com/modelx

but if you put in
Code:
http://my.teslamotors.com/modelx/monkey
you'll just get the Model X page, but the URL still says
Code:
http://www.teslamotors.com/modelx/monkey

Would seem like there's something at /design and it is executing an explicit redirect vs just a lazy interpretation of the URL.

Good sleuthing! I get the feeling Elon won't be able to contain his excitement for the X for much longer, and he's going to start leaking hints to us all if prodded, a la Bloomberg this morning.

I did some testing using telnet and raw HTTP GET requests. It seems that /modelx/design redirects to /modelx, but /modelx/whatever simply returns the content of /modelx. Woho. Could it be that design studio opens right after NAIAS?

wooden exteriors would have to be left out, though

There have been no statements from Tesla regarding the cancellation, delay or optioning of the wooden exteriors - which suggests it may be provided in the base model, even.

A dictionary attempt at file names in the teslamotors.com edge CDN cache asset folders where they keep images, sprites, etc may yield this picture. I think the filename (assets_x15_ext_panel_option_selector_black.jpg) is telling.
