Do you guys have any idea how long before delivery they assign VIN? I haven't got to VIN assignment yet and I know some folks have had VIN assigned/unassigned flips back and forth also...

that sucks. Also interesting to note that delivery dates on tesla.com for new cars have all moved pretty far out except few. Maybe should have ordered the Model Y performance

Exactly, it nonsense its not like we are buying a Saturn. I ask for a director of sales, a regional manager of operations and all they tell me is. They don’t have communication with these folks to just watch for a vin. Ok my delivery time is 6-13 weeks. It’s been 13 weeks come Tuesday next week. If anyone wants to start a class action let me know. We could challenge them on falsified data and information yo just boost sales numbers. They had my wife crying so now I’m not happy about this.

I ordered on June 18th and was given 7-11 wks for delivery. I was contacted today by an advisor and I’ll be receiving my car delivered to my home tomorrow.
Definitely excited it came a lot sooner than 7-11wks.

We're super pissed too. In my case, we finally had got a VIN and 30 minutes before the scheduled delivery, Tesla ended up canceling the delivery because of some issue with the car. Anyway, back to being VIN-less with no updates on when/if we'll be getting the car.

Ordered: 5/18, blue, 20", everything else standard.

Anytime estimate gets close, they just add +1 week. I mean it's not like they don't have data how many cars they are producing (and expecting to produce in the next few weeks/months) and how many orders are pending etc, why the bait and switch +1 week to keep us on hook?

If they are a "tech" company as people say, they should have very good analytics and smart models to estimate/predict when car will be ready. Or even if they go with no predictive model and just raw how many we make and how many are pending orders even then I expect better estimates here and they would actually be moving the dates earlier (instead of out), since they may have people that reserved but no longer want the car, defer the order, failed to make payment or put it on hold etc.

I ordered my Y in early July. Delivery was Sep 18 - 30. Then on 7/22 it went to October. Now the delivery date completely gone - no estimate at all. (Or maybe it moved somewhere??) Now instead it says “We will reach out to you to schedule your delivery date. Delivery time frame is based on order date, profile submission, delivery location and vehicle configuration.”

Anyone else left with no date at all?

My Model Y order wa placed on July 15. The delivery date was slowly getting pushed to Dec 2021 - Jan 2022 and now it has vanished. I got the same message as you. Wondering if I should opt for the 2022 version. Should I call Tesla and ask about EDD for the 2022 version?

The key thing I'm learning here is that EDD is very chaotic - bouncing all over the place, both in and out.

If waiting for other changes is attractive to you, then contacting Tesla might be a good idea. But bear in mind Tesla does not follow the conventional "model year" approach that other manufacturers use. They don't make a bunch of changes all at once each year, but instead incrementally make changes all the time. So waiting for the "2022 version" probably doesn't mean a big batch of new changes, just the ones that get added between now and whenever you buy.

09/10 Received text message - Tesla Update from delivery team. Please reply "Ready" to confirm you want to take delivery asap....said they will be delivering at home, asked address etc.
09/10 replied to them "ready", provided info and asked/confirmed about VIN not being assigned and if it is needed for insurance etc. (they said doesn't matter).

09/15 Received text message - We plan to build your model y in September, please reply "September" or "Delay"
09/15 replied to them "September"

09/16 Received text you'll receive automated text to schedule your delivery when your vehicle has finished production.

09/16 Just checked website and now it is saying confirm/proceed with Order button. Now showing VIN and final payment is due. So looks like they are ready to take payment info, so we are ready to gooooooo
