Model Y Ordered

Do you have a Model Y on order?

Just placed an order for a Model Y AWD LR after I saw that Tesla dropped the order deposit from $2500 to $100. Unfortunately, you can no longer order the 7-seat version; it's still in the design studio, but it says it will not be available until 2021 and the option is not clickable. They also changed the default wheels to 19", which I'm not really a fan, but perhaps it's just a cover like the existing aero wheels that's hiding a better look underneath.

I'm still interested in the 7-seater (better to have it and not need it), but I wanted to get in line now, especially given the lower deposit payment. I'm also hoping they offer leasing options by the time that deliveries start.

Anyone else here got orders in? Any 7-seaters?

I’ve considered it, but may just get a 3 instead since we already have an X. Though the price difference between the 3 and Y has closed significantly. Likely purchase in the summer.

Edit to add that we don’t need the 7 seater due to the X. I wonder how they will make that third row useful.

I'm planning to wait as long as possible, as I'd really like to see it in person. I love my 3, but if the Y is even marginally larger, I'm going to turn in my 3 for the Y. The interior & storage space difference going from my X to a 3 was dramatic (not unexpected however) and I'd like the Y to get some of the space back. From what I've seen on size comparisons between the X and the Y, it seems like it's going to be a good mid point. Plus I want my hatchback back!

Definitely ordering one when the 7 seat option comes out. Although I can also compare it to the truck when that is released as well. We have a 3 leased so we have time to weigh our options, definitely need a bigger car though since I have 3 kids. Also both 3s are RWD, so want dual motor this time around!

And is it just me, or is the $100 no longer a deposit, but a fee. It definitely increased my total car price the last time.

Moving over from this thread in the Model Y forum:
Model Y's in Hawaii

I'm waiting on VIN and delivery date for my 2/1/20 order. I was contacted a couple of times in April and May by representatives just checking in on my order and if I had any questions. I've also finalized my trade-in offer on my 3, but I suspect the offer will expire before I can take delivery. Hopefully the value doesn't drop otherwise I'm postponing delivery. I was pleasantly surprised by how much they offered me for my 3.

I’m also waiting for a VIN and delivery date. A delivery specialist reached out to me in early March and told me I should expect delivery by the end of the month, which didn’t happen.

I’m also bracing for the revised trade-in offer on my non-Tesla trade. It’s almost certain to drop given where wholesale values are now — Tesla or otherwise. If it’s a low-ball offer, I’ll try to sell it privately (taking into account the impact to the GE tax on the new vehicle).

I’ve actually started to wonder if buying a new car makes sense given how little I’m driving these days — I expect to be working from home even after we’re allowed back into the office. Fuel savings (or lack thereof) is not a factor for my Tesla purchase, but not being able to enjoy driving it may be a reason to cancel.

Not buying now may have merit. As I recall back in 2009, the state created a new car purchase incentive program. Again, as I recall, they forgave the excise tax imposed on new car purchases for about two years.

If I remember correctly, it was a federal program -- you got a federal tax credit for whatever you paid in sales tax on a new car. I vaguely remember the Hawaii congressional folks had to amend it so that Hawaii would qualify since we technically don't have a sales tax.

I ordered a new Toyota that just happened to come in a few days after the effective date of the program. Would not mind having that happen again!

Speaking of Toyota, they announced pricing for the RAV4 Prime, which will qualify for the $7.500 EV tax credit. Could be a tempting alternative to a Model Y, though availability is going to be terrible.

All I remember are the videos of dealers "killing" the clunkers so they wouldn't end up on the road again. I don't remember what they poured into the engine, but it was sad seeing some pretty nice older vehicles sputter to their death.

I didn't have an eligible clunker to trade in, so couldn't take advantage of it. Incidentally, the car I sold to buy my new one in 2009 is still on the road; saw it at Windward City Shopping Center a couple months ago, still chugging along.

Edited to add:
Of course, right after this discussion about how it makes sense to delay, I logged into my Tesla account and found my MVPA and VIN assignment. VIN 11XXX. No delivery date yet. :)

Congrats! Just curious - not sure if you're paying cash or financing, but if you're financing, did you finalize that in your Tesla Account? I'm "done" except for finalizing the financing, and I wonder if that's a stopping my VIN assignment?

Now the fun begins. Don't forget to check out all the accessories to consider buying. (replacement lights, center console wrap, floormats, etc.)

Paying cash + trade. Might remove the trade and sell privately, but I’ll need to see what they do with the trade-in value they provided back in March. It’s a 4Runner and I’m sure I could get more in a private sale given that every third vehicle on the road seems to be one (the other two being Tacomas, of course). :)

I haven’t been contacted by the delivery advisor or the local team, so I’ll ask them about my trade. Not in a rush to revalue it, though, as wholesale values seem to be recovering.

I’m really not that big on accessories or customization. Probably just tinting the front windows and all-weather mats for the floor and cargo area. For my 4Runner, I bought a tonneau cover and cargo net, and I would buy those for the Y if they offered them.

I have a LR rear drive Model 3 and my wife is waiting for her Model Y LR rear drive. In late December we got notice to prepare for delivery and that they were drafting the contract. Nothing since. We were going to finance 15K but since half a year has gone by we now can pay in full. My wifes Leaf lease expires today so we are anxious to get our Y.

Hard to tell when the LR RWD Y will start production. However, if there is anything I’ve learned so far, it’s that with Tesla almost anything can change day-by-day.

When I ordered, they had already stopped taking RWD orders. If I had the option, I probably would have gone with RWD.

Just confirmed delivery for Tuesday afternoon at the Service center! I was totally surprised by an email this morning asking me to confirm my trade in value and make final payment (which I did). On the order page, I noticed it actually said my delivery appointment was Sunday at 5pm, which I knew was strange. According to the advisor, they have vehicles that are made and shipped out and get matched to the first available order that is ready and done. I got VIN 668X.

Saw my first Model Y in person...while I was driving and making a turn so couldn’t get too distracted. White with Gemini wheels in Kailua.

Also, after a few days of crickets, my delivery advisor responded back that I could delay delivery for up to six months. So that’s what I’ll do.

As I posted in the Model Y threads, I’ve driven under 100 miles since March, and it is unlikely that will increase much through year end.

This will give me time to actually look at a Model Y in person, hope that the factory works out the kinks, and allow me to check out the RAV4 Prime, which will be available in very limited quantities in the fall.

Took delivery yesterday afternoon. The process was relatively smooth and somewhat "touchless" but they still have you sign the paperwork in the delivery bay vs. leaving it in the car (per the Tesla website post). Also, the vehicle didn't appear in my app until about 12 hours after delivery, so make sure you have your card keys with you. I didn't realize how much I'd gotten used to the phone key until I missed having it.

Overall, the QA/QC on the Y is about the same as what I experienced when I took delivery of my 3 two years ago. Some things were much better than my 3, some worse. Nothing that would make me want to refuse delivery, but given the issues I found, I recommend you take your time and do a thorough inspection. The DS did say that their policy is you have 100 miles to note any delivery issues and to submit everything via the app service request. There was no mention of a "due bill" like on my 3.

QC remains Tesla's number 1 challenge to address.

Good to hear you had a positive experience with Tesla service. So far, mine has been the same. I've called and asked a plethora of questions and they've always been patient and thorough with their responses. I'm scheduled for delivery on 30 June and my plan is to expect the worst and hope for the best. I saw a blue MY at Auto Trim Hawaii that looked spectacular. I plan on dropping mine off there next week for similar treatment.
gmtom1- How has your experience been since taking delivery? Is the car phenomenal? Has the service center been helpful with any issues you noted prior to the 100 mile threshold?

Just dropped my Y back at the service center this morning with a list of 10 items that needed fixing from delivery. Most were relatively minor, and they were very professional and understanding. They even sent a ranger out ahead of my appointment to install the Homelink since I had mentioned in my appointment request that was important to me. The Y is much more refined compared to my 3. No complaints so far (except for what I've asked them to fix). I'm tentatively picking it back up on Monday, so we'll see how much they can address.

In general, I've always had excellent service from the local service team in all 7 years of my Tesla ownership. Things have gotten much busier since the early days when most of the techs knew the individual customers and they had more time to spend with you, but they're still delivering the best service they can given the limitations that they are facing with huge demand and delivery timeframe constraints.

Thanks for the update! Super happy to hear you've had a positive, long standing relationship with the the local service team. This will be my first Tesla and hearing about the experiences of on island Tesla owners is really important to me. Thus far I've been mostly impressed with every aspect of their service. I'm crossing my fingers that any QC issues will be remedied with the same professionalism. I wonder if Tesla plans to build a second service center given the high demand on island. Maybe a supercharger or two comes first...
