More questions about Battery / Warranty customer expectations

Can someone help me understand the battery warranty. In a typical gasoline engine the battery is primarily used to start the vehicle, so as cranking power reduces over the life of the battery the unit will simply fail. Warranty replacement is a prorated value.

With the Telsa I would assume the range will be the first sign of a problem. What happens (from a warranty prospective) if the fully charged range drops off significantly? Signicantly is also yet to be defined although I have read 2% per year in normal use. Specifically, is the replacement cell prorated or is the whole vehicle warranty to perform? I have read the threads / posts on gradual derogation over the life of the battery.

I did check the forums before writing this inquire. This forum and others. I remain unclear.
