My 15 minutes with Elon Musk

I had the opportunity to visit with Elon Musk at the recent TED Conference in Long Beach, California last week. It was a great event, as always, and always a chance to hear and discuss new ideas from the world of technology and design. I caught Elon after the talk and we discussed the various folks that had made these long distance runs for over 400 plus miles. He indicated that they are in the process right now of qualifying a new tire that supposedly provides a quieter ride as well as up to 3-4 percent additional range. I found Elon to be easy to talk with and very willing to discuss the NY Times article, which still is something that he can't let go of. He was thoughtful, kind, and willing to take the time to talk with a Tesla owner. I found him to be a very likeable guy.

I presume you mean a 19" tire. Was there any discussion for a 21" tire?

Tire: That's an improvement of about 10 miles on the EPA range. Worthwhile.

NYTimes article: I'm curious what he said, though it was perhaps meant as off-the-record.
