There are a lot of threads here with both horror stories of car conditions and necrosis inducing waiting periods. I wanted to share what my experience was so far...I'm not done quite yet...I go pick it up today!!!
So, I first placed a hold on a 2016 Model S on Vroom that was very, very nice. I was a little disturbed by not having the extended warranty of the CPO, but there was nothing local in my price range on the Tesla site, and I didn't want to pay $2500 to ship one.
Next morning, I am showing off my future purchase when I decide to navigate to the Tesla website to show why it was such a good deal compared to the others.
BOOM, there my (about to be) car was. Same color, a year older, but less miles and a few additional features that the 2016 didn't have. I hit the buy button right then and there because I knew Vroom would refund my deposit.
Then I came here and started reading the stories, and I started really worrying.
That was a Friday (last Friday). Monday I got a call from the delivery specialist and the finance person.
I also got pictures. They were high quality and showed the car to be in pretty good condition. A few scratches and rock chips. Went ahead and ordered the CARFAX report and it came back clean.
Finalized everything Tuesday, and am going to pick up today (Thursday)
I did a few things that I think helped me out.
All-in-all what is that? 5 working days?
Not too scabby in my opinion.

I did a few things that I think helped me out.
- I chose a car in my area that didn't have to be delivered
- I opted to do financing through Tesla - actually rate was decent- figure I can always re-fi down the road if I want
- I chose to not do a trade-in and sell it myself
