MY tints, no one will do it! East Sussex

Hi All
Im about to take delivery of my Model Y on the 30th June (after being told it wasn’t going to come till September).

But I’ve called 10 people in the area and no one will touch this car. They say there too many issues with sunroof glass and sensors?

Anyone know anyone that can do it in the East Sussex area (Brighton)?

I've no idea if they do this sort of thing, but Fastlane Paint & Body do Tesla repairs, and I think they have a shop somewhere north of you in Guildford. A long shot, but might be worth a go?

Why are you trying to have the roof and windshield tinted?

I don’t blame shops for not wanting to do either of those areas. Too much can go wrong.

I never said the windshield.
But regardless it's my decision to want to get it tinted.

Doing the windscreen and having a major crash (with injury) will get the tinting company taken to court. Most won't do it if asked.

Also, it will instantly invalidate your insurance. Might as well get 3rd party because they won't pay out.

He wanted £190 for my model 3 (i know it's not y) but price will probably be similar

It seems odd that 10 companies won't touch it... unless you are asking for something unique.

Essex Tints for example do that many, they even were going to change the name to Tesla Tints!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I’ll look to see if I can get someone booked in with these places on my trips up north.

All the local places say model 3, no issues. But model Y. They won’t touch, as there is too many issues reported. Didn’t even get on to the question what I wanted done.

Rsymons don’t do tints anymore. I enquired a few weeks ago and they said the company they used no longer tints Tesla’s so they no longer provide the service.

FYI UK law states max tint on front windows is 75% transmission which is barely a tint at all so no one really does windscreen tints in the UK. not worth it.

because they mentioned sensors and as far as we're aware there aren't any in the sunroof or rear windows or rear screen.

Perhaps they meant rear demister/heater wire which migth be sensitive? Not sure how its any different to the 3 though - bigger rear window and bigger sunroof but same sort of thing?

I suspect the comment about "sensors" is a miscommunication on the part of the installer the OP has spoken to. In reality they are almost certainly talking about the damage that has been caused to rear window defrosters while tinting Tesla's, as that runs along the edge of the glass.

Isn't the model Y already darkened at the back? why tint it more?
