My X was broken into without breaking the glass

Are there not emergency pull strings on the newer / refresh models? The older ones had red pull cables that worked with or without battery. Just yank on those and the frunk opens.

I think you need to use a 12 volt battery now on the X and S as well as the 3 and Y. Here is the Model X manual where it explains how to use a 12 volt battery while there is no mention of a cable.

The obvious advantage of this 12 volt system is strangers can't normally use it to get into your frunk.

The following steps [12 volt battery] do not open the front trunk if Model X is locked and has low voltage power.​

It took me a moment to parse that. It might have been better to say it only works if the car is unlocked or the low voltage battery is dead (or dying).

They are engineers, it's probably lucky if the manual uses complete sentences that make any kind of sense.
