Are there not emergency pull strings on the newer / refresh models? The older ones had red pull cables that worked with or without battery. Just yank on those and the frunk opens.

I think you need to use a 12 volt battery now on the X and S as well as the 3 and Y. Here is the Model X manual where it explains how to use a 12 volt battery while there is no mention of a cable.

The obvious advantage of this 12 volt system is strangers can't normally use it to get into your frunk.
The following steps [12 volt battery] do not open the front trunk if Model X is locked and has low voltage power.
It took me a moment to parse that. It might have been better to say it only works if the car is unlocked or the low voltage battery is dead (or dying).
