Yeah. That is kinda weird. Hopefully, they have been working on responding to first responder vehicles before doing the visualizations for it. Perhaps visualizing Teslas is an easier task since they already know what Teslas look like whereas recognizing first responder vehicles by their flashing lights requires some extra machine learning.
You know if the car identifies a Tesla as a normal car, there will be nothing happen. But if it identifies a Firetruck as a normal car, there might be a lawsuit happening.

Nobody needs this, IMO.
It seems distracting and confusing (since a red car means that you are close to crashing into it), but I hope Tesla thinks this through.
Although the emergency vehicles could be useful, especially if it gives you a warning saying an emergency vehicles is coming up behind you.

AP is going to have to look for emergency lights since there is no standard first responder vehicle.

This could be an introduction of new underlying vehicle capabilities that are seemingly non-functional, but perhaps that's quite intentional to roll out something that doesn't matter if it's not working perfectly yet before doing something that might change driving behavior. E.g., instead of relying only on vision neural network processing to determine a Model 3 vs Model Y, there could be some additional vehicle communication that would more precisely identify the other Tesla.

Tesla has been playing around with their "operation vacation" stack in the last 6-8 months. First came the cones, then the seemingly meaningless trash bins... Now hopefully their perceptual development stack is good enough where they can simply plug and play objects they'd like to label in the world. Perhaps identifying Teslas is simply "showing off" their new capabilities. Plus it's kinda fun, in an Elon-esque way.
Don't forget that in a recent update they added some much needed improvements to Backgammon
Probably not much functional happening until the 'rewrite'... I hope around 2020.36 or 2020.40 based on previous years

The need for auto pilot to recognize other teslas on auto pilot is extremely important. If for example, your car is driving on auto pilot behind another Tesla car on auto pilot, your car has to be extremely careful to prepare for phantom braking by the car in front of you.
