Tesla is absolutely cutting costs by making this unlimited for 6 months vs $100 credit. I would bet that the average model 3 owner will use less than $4/week in free charging.

Well “cutting costs” is not quite the right term. This is marketing/promotion and obviously companies try different strategies to minimize cost while maximizing sales growth.

I gave my referral code to my friend last month when they were buying their Model 3. They couldnt use my code because it wasn't a performance model. Since this new program is retro to the time they ordered can my friend use my code now and make it retroactive??? They have taken delivery on the 5th of Oct.

Not if they didn't order a performance model (with your code already).


If they had already ordered the performance model with your code then they'd retroactively get the six months free supercharging.

Hi, new here, ordered a M3 AWD on the 18th, didn't know to find someone with a referral code. I do know some owners but they didn't convince me to place an order. It was more of my own research, seeing and driving the car. What's the purpose?

Not sure what you’re asking but You would get free supercharging if ordering with a referral link or code

So all I needed to do *before* ordering was to ask an owner for a code and I get free charging, they get a reward? Seems like Tesla is giving away on both sides by using the referral program. I guess it is advertising for Tesla at less of a cost than paying for ads. Interesting.

I commute and can't charge at home. Waiting in line and spending an hour at superchargers twice per week is my only option. I also had multiple long road trips.

Do you not find that a huge waste of your time? If i could not charge at home no way I would have an ev.

Not really. I simply go to a drive through and eat while waiting in line and charging during my lunch break. Sometimes I even bring my laptop with me to get some work done while I charge.

LOL, I thought you were describing me. I guess I am not alone. When I am not tired, I always bring my laptop to work while charging.

6 months free supercharging is a lot better than lifetime free supercharging. Lifetime free supercharging could make the supercharging network impossible to use and/or ruin the brand or company.

actually, according to Tesla's site, it states that we get the 6 months on top of the $100 credit.. so we are not loosing the 100.. which is a good thing. i prefer the 100 over 6 months.

Took delivery of my M3 last week that was purchased through a friend's referral code, not much communication regarding HOW to take advantage of it and confusing answers from Tesla (including Delivery Specialist). Does anyone know if the 6 months needs to activated somewhere? Or does it commence on 1st day of delivery? Or on 1st usage? I'm going to have a need to use one on Friday (for 1st time!!! )
