New Standard Color White - Black $1k

Looks like black is going to be an option and a plain white will be the new standard color (surprise).

Also looks like Elon DIDN'T delete Twitter (not a surprise).

As mentioned elsewhere- weird move...adding complexity to MFG (adding another possible color the paint shop needs to handle).... unless the white they use is hideous, then it's just a move that adds 1k to the price of the "base" car really.

Indeed, it is a money making move. Grab another $1000 for every black car and give away the lower cost non-pearl white color. White is a popular color so they can probably save more production cost by producing larger batches of white cars with non-pearl paint. Personally, I don't think charging extra for common paint colors is the right thing to do. I mean if it is a really unique color with 3 stage metallic paint or something then I get it but charging extra for black, silver, red it is a bit over the top. Just build it into the price of the car at this point.

Look at the Dodge Challenger, you can get the car in one of 14 colors and only two of them have an up-charge, B5 Blue and Plum Crazy Purple and it only costs $70 extra. And the car is so damn big it probably takes twice as much paint as a Model 3.

I guess those of us who bought our black Model 3's just saw our cars appreciate by $1,000. Add to that the Homelink module that we got for "free" and a couple of price increases since March and we are seeing a pretty substantial bump in cost.

Looks like customers can not order the standard white and still get the 3750 Federal Tax Credit before it drops next month.

How long before that would be implemented? I’d swap my order for that, I’d prefer standard white over a fancy multi coat just for repairs, plus I like the look of the plain white too.

I'm assuming that Tesla is going to go back to Black Obsidian color that they discontinued. I don't think it'd be fair to charge $1k for "standard" black.

Doesn't say but I agree Tesla should bring it back. It seems a little outrageous to charge 1K for a color if not at least a metallic or multi coat color.

I thought the color change was to happen July 1. We stopped in to a store today and they said they didn’t have any of the color samples in yet.

If they move away from Pearl White they should go with a white that really pops like an Alpine or Arctic White. It will provide that Storm Trooper look that has been really popular.

Two whites? Ditching silver was a big mistake as I think it looks so nice in that colour and enhances the lines of the body.

We know Pearl will NOT be standard but that still leaves the question: Will there be 2 whites (6 colors instead of 5), Pearl for $1500 and standard? Or will Pearl be dropped?

Oddly I have had lots of red cars and want a blue. However Tesla is little too dark for me so I went back and forth with Pearl and Red. Went with Red and now a little more glad since white is now standard.

EDIT: Just checked (7/1 AM) and still the same colors.

I think your right, still can't figure out how tesla is still alive as company. But i want to order the model 3 with the basic white color but i need to do it within a few days otherwise mine leasebudget will be shorten in
