Nissan made a leaf ad! Caught it on cbs just before tonight’s 60 minutes. Some typical auto ad zoom zoom, then the pitch: What driving should be, the best selling ev in the world: Nissan Leaf.

Not nice to lol I guess, but wow.

Can’t find it on line.

They had to get the ad aired before it stops being true* early next year.
3 had 146k sales last year and is on pace for 270k this year. Leaf is at 400k with annual sales of 100k or so.

Isn't Tesla already selling Model 3s with VINs in the 400k range? If the crossover point hasn't happened yet, it should be Real Soon.

Tesla doesn't use every VIN, more like 85% of them. 3 number 400k will likely roll off the line this year. Depending how the the ramp at Fremont and GF3 go, they might pass Leaf this year, but more likely to happen Q1 or Q2 2020.

Ads started in June. It will be interesting to see if it improves US sales numbers in July. May global numbers were just shy of 9K. I haven’t seen June yet.

Interesting choice of placement, pretty sure the demographic for 60 minutes is heavily old and white, prob trends fairly conservative as well. Very different than the Etron spot that was widely spread around.

I think they are seeing if they can pull in a larger female audience, which is under tapped compared to the largely male EV audience of today. It will take a quarter or two to see if it works.

I was Supercharging at the Rocklin, CA Supercharger yesterday - which is co-located with a sales/service center. Saw a new Model 3 being delivered with a VIN in the 425,xxx range.
