I found this easy to understand video on the Octovalve and thought it might be interesting to other Tesla M3 owners.

Wow the first person I have seen who can explain in fairly simple language how the octovalve system works and shows the system is far superior to anything out there. Science fiction heat engineering made real. To realize the cabin via the sun shining through glass roof is harvesting free heat to heat the battery is a totally new one on me .

After watching this video, I read the octovalve patent paper https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/58/eb/22/870827f4b9f611/US20190070924A1.pdf which lists all motors that can be run inefficiently and also how the heat is stored by the battery

An excellent presentation.
He forgot the car computer as a heat source: the computer is connected to the cooling system: probably worth up to 250w/h of heat when the audio is cranked up.

Tesla really does think "outside the box" when it comes to energy management, which is one reason why they manage to get more range for a given battery capacity than anyone else.
Makes me wonder what is next.
