OK pile on, pick it apart, but it has merit.
Instead of two step:
1. insert thumb
2. pull with finger(s)

downsides:
possible whistle or drag
possible snag of something or person
appearance


I think I will keep it.
Don't feel there is any more stress on hardware.
I get it, it looks stupid, but function over form this time.

Lol so true. I did put the see-through door sill protectors on, though. Heh. They were about $25 or so.

I think the white zip tie matches the car perfectly......a back zip tie would just clash with the car. Good choice.
