For the record, I have no idea how efficient the defogger is. It may have had no effect on range, but it was the only climate control I left on for some stretches because it felt unsafe (impaired visibility) not to do so.

S385 / VIN 553 (performance) was delivered yesterday. The delivery specialist was David Havasi whose extreme enthusiasm for all things Tesla was very evident. He spent 3 hours on a pleasant autumn day with us teaching us everything about the car and gossiping about all things EV-related. If David is indicative of all DES, it seems like Tesla put a lot of time and effort into hiring good people for the role and training them very extensively.

Driving the car is...amazing. This has been covered in exhaustive detail by prior posters so I'll just leave one anecdote. At one point around a very sharp turn on a hilly winding road I accelerated to 25mph from 15mph (speed limit was 15) almost instantaneously and my passengers heads all hit the back of the seat and both of them audibly screamed.

One thing i'm not sure people have mentioned in prior posts is that I found a lot of people yielding the right of way to me in intersections as we drove around the village during daylight, seemingly to get a view of the car. Once it got dark enough this seemed to stop, supporting my hypothesis that it was due to gawking rather than intrinsic respect for a zero emissions vehicle. Also a gas station attendant left his booth and tried to snap a picture as we drove by once. I think EVs are still rare enough on the east-coast that they cause a commotion, especially when they are as visually appealing as the Model S.

Below are some quick iPhone snaps:

Are you in Westchester, small footprint? I lived in Larchmont for about a decade until I moved to Maryland. The photos of the area around your car look vaguely familiar. The car and the neighborhood are gorgeous.

Very close to Larchmont. We're in Bronxville! I suspect that Westchester county will become a Tesla hotbed as there is a store in White Plains in the Westchester mall and a service center somewhere in White Plains is currently under construction as well.

Our delivery specialist told us that after the state of California, New York is Tesla's next biggest market and well ahead of third place.

We're in Larchmont with our Model S. Still haven't seen another in the wild here outside of the Motor Trend COTY event.

My wife's car has a roof rack and I was planning to take her car this morning, but she switched cars with her mother this weekend so I had a choice of staying at home doing nothing or putting my 11'6" paddleboard in the Model S. I chose the latter and had a nice paddle this morning. If the board was about a foot shorter (10'6") it would have fit and the trunk could have been closed all the way. Still pretty impressive.

When is the roof rack coming out?

@Jkam: since the mounting points come from Mercedes why don't you run by the local MB dealer and see if they've got something that'll work? It's a long-shot (because it's likely dependent on the width of the room) but it might be worth trying.
