I went with Arnold Clarke for my 3.5 year old A-class (40,020miles, FMBSH, 1 owner (me), great condition). Handing back to Merc wasn't really an option as the excess mileage would have cost me around £400.
AC quoted me a figure online a few weeks ago and then dropped £300 off for a small nick on the bonnet when I took it in. The first word out of my mouth when they gave me the revised figure was an emphatic no. Went away and had the nick repaired for £50 and re-did the quote online on Monday of this week and it turned out to be £200 higher than a few weeks ago!
Took it on Tuesday and they tried it on with a tyre which had a TINY amount of rubber missing from the wall (not even sure how that happened as none of my alloys are kerbed). This time they tried to drop the value by £225 - I laughed in the guy's face and asked him if he genuinely believed it would cost £225 to replace the tyre. His response was "that's what the system is saying". My dad could see that I was about to launch a rocket at the guy (verbally-speaking) so he intervened and said we would be willing to deal if they took off £80 as thats how much a legal, part worn tyre would realistically cost (one of my dad's friends owns a tyre place).
The guy went to speak to his manager and suddenly the £225 turned int £85 (baffles me how much they try it on ).
Anyway, sorted it tonight. We couldn't complete on Tuesday as I needed to get a new settlement agreement from Mercedes that took into account my most recent payment. This now meant that they had to pay me £250 and settle my finance too! Winner
