How does one “allow the batteries to equalize and/or the max to reset”?
I think the essence of what ewood is saying is that many people worry too much about the mileage range they see and that variations in that often just come from inaccuracy in the state of charge estimation. Those inaccuracies are unimportant and do not indicate battery degradation. There is nothing that you need to do to "equalize" (balance) or "reset the max".
(And the things people do do, e.g., "touching the shore", are generally less than ideal for your battery
