...I'm more bothered by the sun visor in front of the driver actually since it's right there in front of your face!

Not sure if you're aware, but the sun visor comes off quite easily. My Ranger showed me how to raise and lower it while pulling sideways to remove it from its hinge pin. Watch out to keep from breaking off your mirror as you near the end of the pin... it can be kinda stiff the first time, but now I keep mine tucked on the side of the passenger seat and only pop it on around sunset when driving west. I can usually get away with putting it on partway during those occasions the sun is in my eyes.

I don't know how useful it is. I've removed it from the car and don't miss it one bit. When the sun is low I just sit up straighter in the seat to block it!

For me the sole function of the sun visor was to block traffic signals.

For those of you in the NY area, Technik 1 did an amazing job installing the Escort 9500ci this week. The display shows through the rear view mirror without any scratching on the glass so when off it is completely invisible but otherwise looks built in. I had the control unit placed on the front of the center console next to the power outlets. The alternative they suggested was in the cubby below the screen but this is very discrete (if a little harder to hit the mute and if I get the center console insert I may have to move). The laser jammers are near invisible below the nose cone. I could not recommend Gus and his team for higher quality service and friendliness of use).

I recently bought and installed the Escort SmartRadar. The box attaches to the windshield behind the mirror so it is hidden by the mirror. You have two options for a display. It comes with a small display that attaches to the mirror and sits above (or below) the mirror or you can use the smart phone interface. You would have to select either an iPhone or Android model. With the smart phone app you get speed/stop light camera warnings as well as live cop and speed trap warnings through Escort Live. You also have the option of setting over speed limit warnings so that it will warn you when you exceed the speed limit by a predetermined amount. I like this very much. In my other vehicles I have two Escort 9500ix and a Passport iQ. The SmartRadar when used with the smart phone interface is very similar to the 9500ix.

I used to use the Passport Solo S3 in my Roadster because it was battery operated, but switched to the SmartRadar because of the additional features (camera warnings, Escort Live, etc.) and no need to swap batteries (which was getting tiresome due to the frequency of use).

I have this currently on my Mercedes and like it. Have you noticed any change in range notification? I was concerned the metalised windscreen on the MS would reduce sensitivity.

Pics?

Since I have a Roadster, I don't have the metalised windscreen as in the Model S.

Here is how the Escort Smart Radar looks installed in my Roadster:

I used a fuse tap for power and drilled a small hole so as to screw in the ground

I ran the power cord around the inside of the windshield from above the rear view mirror around the outside of the dashboard and then under the end of the dashboard into the fuse box. The power cord is held in place with these two types of clips. The one with the long tab slips in between the windshield molding and the windshield along the A pillar. The other clip sticks to the inside of the windshield frame to hold the power cord in place.

I use the Escort Live app on my iPhone for the interface. The Smart Radar comes with a small display that sticks to the mirror (either above or below) but in the Arizona heat, the sticky pad doesn't stick for long.
