Thanks Guys.

Wow - it's bright out today! Not used to that shiny thing up in the sky after a long winter... :)

Here's a pic of my 2010 2.0 - I mean my 2010 2.5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Upgraded the front bumper to 2.5 with a CF accent, also the 2.5 rear spoiler. new windshield, and wind noise fix. The repairs seem good - nothing is ever exactly the same after a repair but its pretty good.

Forgot how small and low the car was....... been driving a jacked up hummer all winter :)

Excuse me but I must take the afternoon off and go zooming around.. :)

Kevin

I know other people would say a bigger mirror is not an improvement but a hindrance. The standard mirror is a bit too large already and blocks some forward and right side visibility. Not sure I would like this type of solution for a detector.

I was thinking the same thing, but I guess I could change my mind. Depends on how much built-in wiring there is. If the wires could have a quick disconnect, I would use the micro-mirror when I am just cruising, but I'd do a quick mirror change for when I am booking on the highway.

Benji, I realize that your wires may not have a "quick connect" connector, but is there a short stretch of wire exposed to which a quick connect could be added?

Yes, and actually it connects on the rear top part of the mirror so it's completely hidden. I ran the wire (it's 4 feet long) around the inside of the windshield, behind the dash board right next to the door, and right into the fuse box. The effect is that you see no wires at all, and you wouldn't really seem them when the unit is taken off either. It's fairly easy to disconnect the unit and pop it off, so not a problem when you want to go back to your normal mirror. I really like the big mirror though as it gives you a clear, wide view in the rear direction and doesn't really block anything significant looking out the front. I can see how it might bother some people for sure though. I'm more bothered by the sun visor in front of the driver actually since it's right there in front of your face!

Radar Detector / Laser Jammer?

Has anyone had a Radar Detector and/or Laser Jammer installed in their Roadster?

I would really prefer an integrated system that is installed with little to no visible evidence.

Hopefully someone can give me some suggestions.

TIA!

I have had both, but not in a roadster. Recommendations: 1. The newest Escort 9500ix is pretty nice and limits the amount of falsing. It does this by having a GPS on board and if it goes off three times in a row at the same location it prompts you with the option to delete that location from sounding. It also has a database for speedtraps and cameras. I have had this one installed for several months now and like it. 2nd is the Valentine One available online. Great and better sensitivity, but you will have to listen to some falsing. These units have saved me MANY tickets.

I installed the Blinder MX47 in an M6. In the year that I had this system, I only had it go off several times. Once was a friend on the local PD who helped me test it. Works great, and the laser emitters are very unobtrusive. I mounted one just under the read license plate, and two up front on the underside of the brake air intakes. You would really have to know where to look and what you were looking for to recognize it. Laser is just not used that much here. Make sure that you have a need for it before you spend the $700 for this equipment plus installation. It is not legal in some areas. You have to be alert using this as it requires you to be aware when it goes off, slow down, then TURN THE SYSTEM OFF! Turning it off allows the person painting you to get a reading after you have slowed down. He thinks that his unit just has difficulty getting a lock on your speed. PM me with any questions if you may have.

Not sure if this is the case in the US, but in the UK the cops started fighting back against jammers. If they have a speed gun reading failure, they log your plate in a database and check whether it is already in there. Two reading failures and they come around to your house and check the car over for jammers.

I recall reading that some guy had his new M3 confiscated so they could strip it and check for the device and he received 12 months for perverting the course of justice.

I appreciate everyone's help! I did a search on the forum and did not come up with anything. I am sorry if I missed something. I have concerns with having a local shop install a integrated unit like this in my Roadster(s). I would feel more comfortable doing the work myself... Knowing that nothing sensitive was disturbed, knowing that power was being pulled correctly from an accessory line or the 12v outlet itself... Hmm

Who knows, maybe I am better off simply driving the speed limit... ;-)

I use an escort 9500ix, mounted in the center of the front wind screen.

Detectors (not jammers) are legal here. Besides, I'm too tall to see the speedometer behind the steering wheel, and the 9500ix gives me a heads-up speedometer.
