rear jump seats - folding

I think I am doing something wrong when folding the rear jump seats to put them back into the trunk "well". I get them all folded correctly but then when it comes to flip them into the well, they have a tendency to become unfolded again. I end up having to hold them together with my hand as they go down into the well which is not comfortable and makes me worried I am going to smash my hand.

Is this some kind of design flaw or am I doing something wrong?

There is a strap with a velcro fastener that keeps them from doing that.
