Rear Windshield Glass Trim Missing?

Tried searching but no luck finding a response.

On my m3p the rubber trim around the rear windshield is not “filling the gap” between the glass and trunk lid for approximately 10” on the driver’s side. On the passenger side, the trim extends all the way to meet up with the next piece of trim. The driver’s side trim almost appears shaped with a rounded edge to create this open gap. I guess it’s possible that this is the water channel for drainage.

Could someone help me confirm if their model 3 has the same gap on the driver’s side?

TIA

Rob

I think this is normal, it appears you have a power lift gate and the powered strut is thicker so the trim on that side was intentional removed by Tesla.

Thanks. I do have the powered trunk. Would anyone with a powered trunk be willing to check theirs to see if they can see the strut through the opening and if there is trim installed or not in that location?

TIA

Hey OP, why don't you take the extra photos farther away next time? Can't tell what the heck you photographed. But will try to make sense out of it checking my car. Seems like a hasty 'fix' to do crap work like that. Tesla should have redesigned the trim piece to fit properly. Geez.

I have a 2021 long range all wheel drive and it is missing that section of weatherstripping as well. I have it as an item on my service center appointment in a couple weeks but it might just be their new design. It does look odd though

yeah looked very odd to me as well, but appears to be correct, as it’s the installed design on multiple vehicles now. I cancelled my SC visit for the issue. The weather stripping on the driver’s side appears to be smooth and correctly installed so I think they just modified the design due to the strut on that side.

Not to bump an old thread, but I just took delivery of my Model 3 about a week ago. I too noticed this trim issue and was incredible perplexed. I somehow missed it on delivery but noticed it the next day, go figure. I'm surprised to read that this is normal from some of the comments above. I too submitted a service request for another issue and was going to bring this up during my appointment.

I have had the car for 4 months now and I didn't notice this until now too. Here's some pics with the trunk open and closed.

My 2021 Long Range is the same. I noticed it when taking delivery in July and noticed it is was the same for the other new cars next to mine. Posting here just to express dissatisfaction in the design decision. Just seems like a complete hack - I really expected better. I like the power trunk, but the amount of crap that will collect in this area during a pacific northwest winter will be substantial -- not to mention it looks like a mistake.
