With the recently spotted S in Taiwan and alleged unvailing event, is it possible they’re shipping S/X globally early in Q1? I know that used to be the strategy.

Might explain some light VIN activity early in 2022?
I sure hope not. They need to get through some backlog here before shipping a bunch of overseas. Should be cheaper for them to deliver vehicles here as well versus shipping them long distances.

From what I heard, Q1 shifts over to international orders for the bulk of builds. I would look at the inventory checker daily and before (end of Q4) I would see a handful of Model 3/Y’s available at any moment, over 100 Model S’s and no X’s. Now I never see a Model Y, 1 or 2 Model 3’s and 40+ S’s for the US market.

I don’t really view this as unfair.

Tesla is not going to make 5/7 seat Plaids. People who ordered a 5/7 seater don’t have an option. Their order cannot be filled as ordered.

Others who upgraded to a LR 6 seater to get it earlier had a choice, that they made.

These are 2 totally different and separate scenarios.

I will say I don’t fall into either category and I feel individuals that were talked into LR 6 seater upgrades at a cost with a promise of a 2021 delivery got screwed (if they didn’t get their car in 2021). But not because they had to pay. Their delivery promise was not fulfilled, so it would be nice if Tesla did something for those folks. For those that paid for the 6 seat upgrade and got their car in 2021, I see no room to complain.
As a LR 5 Seater I don't have any skin in this fight but I'm bummed for everyone who got a call from Tesla asking them to change to the 6 seater. That request to change their configuration was Tesla's for their own advantage. Obviously Tesla has more parts for the six seater and needs to burn down that supply.

As a customer centric person, I feel anyone Tesla choose to call and get them to change the configuration should have the $6,500 up charge refunded or provide relief like adding Free Supercharging to their VIN. If a customer needed/wanted a 5 or 7 seat configuration then that is what they needed/wanted. Tesla committed to building these configurations during the ordering process. Those orders were in the Que for more than 6 months. Tesla has asked their customers to change to a 6 seater configuration for Tesla's benefit, not their customers.

If a customer wanted/needed a 6 seater at the time of their order then they are not entitled to a refund or relief for they are getting what they ordered for the price they agreed to at the time of the order.

That's just MHO.

You're correct. I was thinking FSD which he did post about. But nothing regarding 6 seaters for Plaids. I've seen it in many blogs though, but nothing 'official' beyond what SAs are telling our guys. I apologize for confusing FSD with 6 seater announcement from Elon.

This is the joke post. It’s not a real tweet. The ole Oracle pulled a fast one on us 😂.

So I need to take some sort of tiny screwdriver with me when I pick up the car? Phillips or straight? Seems like the Service Center should do this..what else do those sales reps have to do? What’s a ”delivery specialist” do? Hand you a key fob that isn’t working and say, “good luck, thanks for $115K?” You know, we aren’t all tech savvy handy men. We include old, dull, people who try hard but just can’t seem to make technology work. BTW, thanks for the tip on this DYI project. I’ll add it to the hard copy folder I keep for when I finally, eventually get my car.

No screwdriver needed. Just some finger strength if keyfob is same as before. Remove a plastic panel and battery is accessible.

I ordered a LR 5seater in June 2021. Delivery date keeps changing (currently says Feb). I asked to upgrade to a 6 seater and they quoted a 20k+ price hike (the upgrade price plus price increases since my order).

Is this reasonable?

Has anyone received delivery or VIN on a 5 seater? I don't want to want anymore but 20k+ seems ridiculous.

100% this. What a strange way to judge someone. What does someone with money look like? People making millions doing weird YouTube videos these days.

Doctor family here. Household income over half a mil a year. You’d never know it if you met or walked past us though. We don’t talk or act like we have money. Both of us come from poor, immigrant families. I wear basketball shorts and t-shirts (not even nice ones honestly). I put on jeans and a sweatshirt the other week and my wife asked why I was so dressed up and where I was going. 😂
Fun fact: I originally bought my model S over an Audi partially because of how they treated me at the Audi dealership (complete indifference as if I didn't even exist). I write software... I wear jeans/cargo shorts and a t-shirt most of the time. I also make more than most surgeons because of where I work. You really can't assume everyone has to be wearing a tailored suit or whatever to have money these days.

Do any of you ever worry about the feeling of disappointment/being underwhelmed once the car is delivered after so much anticipation? I check this forum and refresh my app many times a day to see what's the latest, but I feel almost as though I'm getting myself too hyped-up and excited which might take away some of the fun once I actually receive the car (it'll be my first Tesla). I liken it to the feeling I always got in medical school... before any major exam I was always so excited to finally be done with the exam and expected that feeling to be pure happiness; however, once I was finished with an exam I always felt a little underwhelmed, like "meh this isn't that exciting of a feeling as I expected". IDK maybe I'm odd?

Definitely not worth 20K to change to a 6 seat. I'm in the same boat - ordered a LR X in June. Delivery date says Feb. We ordered the six seat configuration. Any changes that we wanted to make was going to revert to the new pricing. With the current pricing of the X, you would be better off taking delivery of what you ordered. It'll be worth more than you paid.

As soon as you switch to 6 seater they’ll change batches and start making 5 seaters only. It is the tesla way.

You are not odd. I feel you. I am orthopedic surgeon. You describe well the mentality one has while climbing a ladder that goes on for years and years. Every time you are at the top, you rest, feel good, only to realize you have more rungs to climb. It's why I talked one of my kids out of being pre-med in college (although, I have since worked hard to make sure he makes the decision for himself, not because I persuaded him).

It's the mental hamster wheel. We all have it to some extent. The buddhists deal with it well by preaching the moment. The one right here. It's the only time that exists, so embrace and enjoy it.

Sorry. I am waxing way too philosophical.

Carry on.

Personally I feel the whole process is more like studying for your boards. You know the information, you are excited to look at what the latest Board review questions are.
You know the answer and understand what they are asking, but they tell you, you are wrong because "although your answer is correct, answer C is the best answer".

So the process currently is quite underwhelming and extremely frustrating, however from what I am reading and from what I have heard from other owners, once you have the car, it is awesome.

But then again once you got that diploma showing MD after your name, it was awesome....then you started residency which sucked.
