Rejected White/White PUP today Chicago

I got a call about around 11 that there was an inventory vehicle at Chicago Grand Ave that matched our build (White/White PUP) VIN 11K.

Since we lived close, we decided to head over there and take a look. As soon as I walked up, I noticed the mismatched paint on the doors vs rest of the car (the common blue difference.) Besides that, the car REALLY looked good, (No paint imperfections or anything.) I went through the whole checklist and all was well, minus the trunk being just a little unaligned, which caused the back glass to be off. The back black trim had a few small scratches on it and the uneven back seat, but not a big deal.

As much as I wanted to take it, I just couldn't overlook the color difference especially after another customer confirmed the same; it would bother me every day. It wasnt bad in the sun, but we happened to get some clouds and that made it stand out more. I tried to get pictures, but they pulled another M3 next to it and it blocked it.

With that said, if someone else rejected it because of the same thing and then I get a call and rejected it, they probably called the next person in line and eventually someone will not notice.

So with all the “rejections” do you think Tesla really is aware that this is happening?

These pearl-coat paints are a problem for this. It's not a different color, but the direction the doors were painted is different than the paint direction of the rest of the car. Unless they can find someone to take it without noticing, they'll have to repaint the doors, probably the whole car.

If the car was fine other than the paint mismatch, you could have taken it on the stipulation the paint would be fixed or even the whole car repainted. But if you don't want to deal with it, I get it.

I really considered it but since the whole experience wasn’t the best from the beginning, I didn’t want to even bother with it. Advisor was rude, he said it looked the same (which would be an uphill battle from there), and when I went back inside after inspection and said I was going to wait for a new build, he looked up and said “OK, see ya next time.”

You can say whatever you like to pro Tesla. However, I rejected my MY for the same issue today, and I saw another MY is even worse.

Guess what, with the same eyes, same direction, same ways to check all white M3, S, X in the lot over 10 of them, I saw none of them has this issue.

Can you get a smart excuse for this??? Did they go through different paint process???

That looks exactly the same as the W/W PUP I rejected last week. My pics on the Paint Mismatch thread.
My SC told me the car would simply go to the next customer in line (outrageous!), but at least they fixed the other dozen issues with the car I notified them of.

Was the last two digits of the VIN 59 by any chance?

I bought a pair of white on white Model Ys today so we could have his / hers. Our VINs are in 18k + 19k. Both Y's had poor white paint coverage on the doors. It rained here yesterday so the cars had lots of spots and dust residue so we didn't notice until after we had accepted and drove away. After a thorough cleaning at the car wash, we definitely noticed the paint issue. Sent our delivery specialist a note that we want them both entirely repainted or we will return them.

Waiting to hear back from Tesla on what they will do. I think they should know there is an issue with the white paint on the Y's by now. Love the cars otherwise. Hope they will repaint them and that we don't have to give them back.

This is what we are worried about as well. I even notices some “clouds” in the paint with the peal, but it was consistent for the whole car so my eyes adjusted. It’s funny because there is a new Model S in our garage that is white and when I got home it reassured me that I made the right decision. The pearl white was perfect.

I think it's pretty obvious Tesla isn't painting the Y's with the doors attached.

When your car is in an accident, a body shop will "blend" the paint so that it's not so obvious a door or panel or roof might not match perfectly. When you paint any panel by itself, you're praying it will match, but they almost never do.

Tesla, you NEED to paint the bodies with the doors attached!!!!!

Are Y's being painted in the clown tent while the rest of the lineup gets painted in the actual factory?
