The answer seems obvious. Trying to tie down sheets of plywood on top of a car is beyond unsafe and most certainly stupid.

If you pack the space under the bars the aerodynamic effects of wind on the ply will be to push down instead of take it away with the bars.

The model Y roofrack is $500 (plus it's "out of stock" anyway), so ignoring the additional time taken to install the thing you could rent the HD truck 25 times instead

If you didn't get the tow package you could pay for almost half of it instead of getting the roofrack

If you get the roofrack and use it once, are you going to leave it on? or spend more time (and risk for a second time cracking the glass) taking it off? If you leave it on, it'll degrade your performance
