This is pretty annoying! I would love to have ordered a AWD for an only 4K difference. My cars been in the shop for a month, a week after delivery! So no car and new options! Heard of people having bad timing with Tesla and now I'm one of them.

According to the information on Wikipedia The Weight of Mid Range RWD is 119 lbs lower than Long Range RWD

Tesla confirmed to Electrek this is a different battery. The car is also 300 pounds lighter than LR RWD.

Tesla might still be motor-production limited on AWD production (we know they were limited by that for a while; they may still be limited, just at a higher rate)

Elon has said they will just incorporate new technical changes in the car as they are developed month-to-month, and they have shown that price is also quite variable. White premium interior should eventually be the same price as black.
