Salesman said my order would reflect new pricing, but lied or was wrong...

It would become an issue if you had a loan for it but their return policy says you have 1 day for a complete refund. Especially under their new rules with the closing of stores. I had to cancel my order, thank fully the price change was within 72 hours of my order, to get the current pricing. My Tesla sales office here in Vancouver kept saying no problem but would give me nothing in writing so I called the 800 number and they suggested the cancellation and re order. They gave me a confirmation in writing for the cancellation which the local sales office would not.

As others have said The purchase experience is great until you hit buy now and after you receive your car. The middle part is terrible and it feels like you are in limbo.

Did the folks you know fall in this category? Order before 3/1, and delivery after 3/1? I had exchanged text messages with my delivery specialist many times and was told I can’t get the new price but would get free FSD as I have EAP in my order. But somehow can’t get them to put free FSD in the contract
It was last fall when the prices for various options were changing.

Hi everyone, OP here. Lots of new posts, so instead of replying directly per each post like I was, I’ll try to answer to everything I read (let me know if I missed something).

I was told by HQ refusing delivery would cause me to lose my deposit, so I waited to speak with the local service center today.

I ordered...

Model 3 Performance
Black Paint
Black Leather
Enhanced Auto Pilot
$67k

With the new pricing, this setup would cost only $61k. A new option that wasn’t available when I ordered wwas full self driving at $5k extra, which would put it at $66k.

The local “salesman” said as someone mentioned here before will now upgrade EAP orders to FSD ($5k value) and non-EAP orders to EAP ($3k value). He sent me a picture of the email he received from Tesla stating this.

Since I’m buying with a loan and I’m already frusterated from waiting since Feb 4 to have a Tesla and the hassles and costs of refusing delivery and having to fight for my deposit or accepting the loan, getting insurance only to return it within 24 hours and then fight to get my money back and then go through the whole process again... I decided to just take their offer, I’ll get the car as is but with the free FSD valued at $5k for new orders. That’s only a $1k difference, which is easier to swallow.

When I went to accept my Tesla loan it stated a 2018 Model 3. I contacted my local salesman and told him as I made it very clear I want a 2019 only. Less than an hour later or so it was changed to a 2019 vin.

Anyways, I know this still leaves the main questions up in there such as is your deposit gone if you refuse delivery or what’s the actual loss (if any) taking delivery and then returning it. However, with all this being said I can’t wait for my Tesla to come. I hope these are just growing pains. I already placed a deposit to have it wrapped in Gloss Lemon Sting.

Thank you again everyone!

Why not deny delivery, at that point they will let you order another car for the new price. Just have to wait another 4 weeks. I’m also in Orlando, have ordered 3 other cars though them, no issues. Bottom line don’t give in, or don’t take delivery. They want you to buy the car to make 1st quarter delivery. They will work with you.
This. Do not accept delivery until repriced.

Oops just saw your resolution. $1k for 2019 car is good compromise.

I think your old $67k price might have included the destination charge? My order is almost the same as yours except I got blue paint which costs an additional $1.5k. And the order is $67.4k before destination charge.

The $66k price today does not include the destination charge if I’m correct.

So I don’t think you’re $1k behind.

Thanks guys! Yeah it's not bad anymore. I think it's just growing pains since Tesla is a new company for the mass market. I hope you are all enjoying your cars! I can't wait to get mine :)
Yea, with free FSD, I think we are good.
I’m still waiting for mine! Haven’t even gotten my VIN yet.
Would you mind sharing that picture of an email you were sent? For the free FSD upgrade. Thanks.

I’m just catching up on this thread but have a few thoughts based on the posts:

1) There is a disconnect between the ability to get a full refund for any reason and the loss of a deposit for a cancellation. Those two things simply don’t make sense and Tesla needs to fix them.

2) If your salesperson told you to expect the lower pricing you need to hold him to it, period. Don’t accept any other offer.

3) If they matched you to a 2018 model they didn’t even build the car for you. It was an inventory model they tried to stick you with. You have every right to reject it and demand a refund.

They matched me up to an MR inventory model this week and when I went to pick it up the panel gaps were way out of spec so I refused delivery. They were more than happy to refund my deposit, no strings attached.

If you don’t like the answer you get from one person at Tesla, try another person. I find you get a different answer almost every time you ask a question, so keep asking until you get an answer you like.

Be firm, don’t let them take advantage of you.

Thank you, 1) Yes I've gotten mixed answers from HQ, service center, Elon's tweets. I agree they need to better inform their team, especially after such a major announcement when they know a lot of people will be wanting to get new pricing for ordered cars, customers who just picked up their cars and for future reference customers. 2) I think I would have been able to hold him to it with some stress and work with it, but my main reason is resale and since they gave me FSD, the price basically comes out to be the same now, so it's just not worth the stress and time for me to get heated again. 3) I don't know why it said 2018 when I got the notice my car will be delivered, after speaking to my sales rep, he changed it to a 2019, I double checked the vin and it is a 2019 vin now. I would not accept a 2018 under any circumstances unless it was a $5-10k discount. 4) I'm hoping there won't be any flaws, scratches, etc when my car is delivered and if so I would definitely demand a new one. I heard there have been more issues with these kinds of things since they have been rushing to get cars out. I hope the 2019's aren't part of these rushed batches. The wait feels so long I can't wait to drive it, but I'm also going to be getting it wrapped in gloss lemon sting, so even once I get it and everything looks good, I'll have to say good bye for another 4-7 days.

Anyone in CA and other states should read the DMV rules, in CA if you do not take the car and the contract is not signed they can't keep your deposit last I checked. You can file a complaint with the DMV and in inspector with the DMV will look into the case and if Tesla is found to be breaking the present law they can pull their sales for the entire state. If you return a car or anything else for that matter in CA you get the sales tax refunded by the seller not the state. That is a FULL refund. I cancelled an oder when they said I could not and I got my full deposit back, so have others.

Per CA DMV re dealers:

It is unlawful for any dealer licensed under this article to do any of the following when brokering a retail sale:
(c) Fail to refund any purchase money, including purchase deposits, upon demand by a consumer at any time prior to the consumer's signing of a vehicle purchase agreement with a selling dealer and taking delivery of the vehicle described in the brokering agreement.

Tesla may take the car back per their return policy but the state of California will never return close to $5,000 in state tax and license fees. Returning the car after delivery would never work out for me.

What makes you think they can issue a refund and not return the sales tax and fees? The BOE (former name) does not work that way. A refund requires the return of that paid by the dealer. Tax and fees are collected by the state from the dealer, they do not get to pocket those fees on returned cars.

I just spoke with Order Support specialist "Josh" at the order support call center in Las Vegas. He stated that everyone who wants a lower price has to cancel the order and place a new order. If you log into your Tesla account and look at your order agreement, that is the number they expect you to pay.

He stated that their order system does not allow them to adjust the price. He also stated that they can not "transfer" your deposit from one vehicle to another. He said they are making customers order a new vehicle (create a new reservation) and then provide the delivery manager with this new reservation number in order to get the refund approved and processed. He claimed a lot of people were cancelling and saying they would "reorder" but never did. It is definitely a circus.

Tesla has a lot of problems and things have only gotten worse since October (the Mid Range and first pricing disaster)

We ordered a Standard Range X but the price dropped $8000. The price for the Long Range is exactly the same as what it would've been for the Standard Range X so we haven't bothered calling. Shortly after the price change, the car began to show up as Long Range except for on the View Spec link where it shows as Performance.

In the past, they have been able to transfer a deposit but a new deposit is still needed. For example, in 2016, I had a $5000 deposit on an X. I then placed an order for an S and put down a $2500 deposit. When it came time to figure out the final amount due on the S, they were able to transfer the deposit from the X to the S. More recently, I've read examples of customers reordering and being able to transfer the first deposit to the second order, but yes, there were two deposits total.

They can adjust the price, but they probably need to put in a ticket to have someone above their pay grade handle it. When I bought a Model 3 last September, it was missing a large referral credit. I had to wait a couple of hours on delivery day but they were able to apply the credit and adjust the price. For the X delivery later this week, I have a solar referral credit of $750 that should be applied. I'm sure they'll have to open a ticket to get that handled.

I'm in the same boat. Ordered with EAP on 1/31. Took delivery on 3/26. I called Tesla delivery specialist and service center at the HQ when the new pricing came out on 3/1. Both promised I'd get free FSD upgrade as I ordered EAP before 3/1 and no VIN has been assigned. So at that point, I had an option to cancel and reorder the same config but with FSD for the same price as my initial order. As I was promised free FSD upgrade, I decided to keep the existing order. When I took the delivery on 3/26, the MVPA still showed EAP and I just tried to double check about the FSD upgrade. This time there was a different delivery rep and he just acted as if he didn't know anything about the FSD upgrade.

Has your car been delivered? Did they give you the free FSD upgrade? If it's not been delivered yet, I suggest you to please clarify this BEFORE taking the delivery as they seem to change the words.

I wish I would have started pursuing this sooner. Ordered 2/7, after 3/1 confirmed (in writing) with support that I would get AP added instead of price adjustment. Trying to confirm with delivery center after I got a VIN last week that I will have AP on the car... still waiting to hear. I think my ticket is making its way up the ladder at headquarters. I take delivery in 17 hours and should be more excited than I am.
