Screen brightness resets to auto on autopilot?

Why can't I turn down the screen brightness and keep it that way? every time I turn down the brightness and turn off Auto,m it re-engages to auto when I engage autopilot within a minute or so. I keep thinking this would be fixed with software updates but still doing it. anyone else?

Yes. I lamented about this several months ago on this forum. It's annoying for sure.

Why is this still a thing? I really want a dimmer screen at night. Suggestions?
