Should purchases of Tesla shares should be deductible as a charitable donation?

First, you need to switch Tesla into a not-for-profit company.

If so, it is not meant to pay back profits to those who pay in (for-profit payers are called investors/shareholders but not-for-profit payers are called donors/members).

For example, I could pay to become a member of PBS and no matter how much I pay, it won't ever give me back any profit at all!
 
I fully support 501(c)(3) status.

Many schools are not-for-profit and they are rich too such as Stanford University.

Entertainment could also be not-for-profit as well such as New York City Ballet

Many U.S. hospitals are not-for-profit and they are huge and very rich.

So, I agree, Tesla should become not-for-profit too!
