Sliding arm rest & spilled drinks

I have searched for other people with this issue. When I have a cup of coffee in the cup holder in the front of the sliding arm rest, if my arm accidentally slides forward, my coffee cup gets crushed, the top pops off and coffee gets everywhere. Am I the only one running into this issue? Ugh, the mess it makes!!!

I never have paper cups in the car. It’s just asking for trouble. Much better deal getting a thermos refilled. Less waste too.
