Smart Charger(WIFI, Tracking, Schedule) worth it?

Is it worth it to get a smart wall charger? One with features such as the Charge Point with all these features
  • Charge faster and smarter with the ChargePoint app. Set a schedule to only charge when electricity is cheapest, set reminders so you never forget to plugin, use Alexa voice control, and see all your ChargePoint charging data in one place.
Doesn't Tesla already keep track of all that stuff?

You can set up Scheduled Charging, also Scheduled Departure from the Tesla Charging screen settings. You can also control charging settings from the Tesla phone app. You can only set one scheduled charging/departure time each day. (If you want to set up scheduled charging multiples times per 24 hour period requires a third party app such as TeslaFi or Teslamate.) In some regions the electrical utility offers a TOU rate plan with a middle off the day off-peak rate period in addition to an overnight off-peak rate period. Some users want to be able to set a scheduled charging period for home and work.)

Tesla does not currently support integration with Amazon's Alexa. To track your energy usage per charging session and total energy usage over time requires a third party app such as Teslafi or Teslamate. (You can track your total energy used while driving by renaming the Trip B odometer to be Lifetime Etc. and choosing to not reset this display. (The Tesla Model Y will display energy used while driving; preconditioning energy usage, dog mode, camp mode energy usage are not included in the Trip B/Lifetime display data.)

You can set daily reminders using Alexa such as "This is your daily reminder to plug in the Tesla."

Unless you qualify for a rebate from your local electrical utility for the Chargpoint EVSE unit the Tesla Wall Connector at $500 is probably a better value.

The Tesla Wall Connector can be configured for load sharing (up to 4 Wall Connector units can be charging using one sub panel (each Wall Connector on it's own circuit breaker) and not overload the sub panel circuit and circuit breaker.)

The Tesla Wall Connector will support direct billing (probably not something a home user would need.) The Tesla Wall Connector can be programmed to only recognize specific Tesla vehicles as able to charge. (You won't have to worry about someone charging their Tesla vehicle using your Wall Connector and electricity if for example you install a Wall Connector outside your home or place of work.
