I believe the satellite maps are from Google. Satellite images are taken all the time, but they pick the best images for each area, since some images can be covered in cloud. So it is conceivable, that the best images for that close-up is from the winter, and the zoomed out one is possibly newer and taken during summer.
 
Google takes/buys the images for their maps at several levels, and therefore taken at different times, with the close ups taken from aircraft, the really zoomed out ones by satellites. They rarely use snow-covered imagery for parts of the world without snow most of the year, but if it's the best image they have, it's the one they will show you.
