Steering settings for Autocross

Steering settings for Autocross.
1. Does anybody know exactly what is making the steering feel stiffer with sport setting?
2. What setting lets you "feel" road conditions, bumps, tire slip etc?
I typically enjoy the Sport setting for everyday driving. I recently changed from Sport to standard during Autocross and I must say, I think standard is better for AX. The wheel definitely turns quicker. I can't tell which setting lets me "feel" tire slip better.

1. how little the electric motor provides assist. the less, the less it boosts the torque, the more the the steering effort approaches the 'natural' required torque (i.e. if boost was zero)

2. nothing.
