Surround view

Does anyone if the Tesla has surround view camera capabilities coming via software update? My wife has gotten use to seeing the camera view from all angles on our current vehicle and she really wants this feature before we buy one. Weird that such a technologically advanced vehicle with so many cameras and sensors is missing something that you can now find as an option on many other less advanced vehicles...

Something can’t be “missing” if it never was there or planned to begin with. If I recall correctly, Elon said cameras can’t provide the 360 degree view so my guess is it’s not coming unless they do some software magic

Not possible with the current camera setup due to a significant blind spot in front of the car. Adding feeds from pillar and fender cameras should be pretty helpful though.

well, i think it is possible, they will find a way to present 360 view while parking.

The ultrasonic sensors are all around the car and they tell you exactly how far you are from an object in centimetres. The view out the front of the car is amazing with the low, sloping hood and low dash. The backup camera is something that has to be experienced to be believed. Add those features up and I find it far easier to maneuver the car in tight spaces than our Highlander with the 360 view.

I doubt that Tesla will do it as their aim is to make the car fully autonomous, however, there is a third-party aftermarket solution: 360 surround view + HDMI kit testing

The front fender cameras should help with parking if ever enabled onto the screen. Question is... how does the car know you're parking while in D? Thus the auto park feature (that 25% works). Work in Progress!

I can see that "rear camera button" be expanded to include an all camera around the car visualization. Or a P camera button on the UI to enable them all.

I would have thought given what the current movable arial view shows it should be possible with some additional software power to generate a fairly good picture. Not sure what extra cameras the Leaf for example uses for its Birdseye view?

I keep reading that there's a patent covering the 360 view implementation and so only certain brands have it. I've never researched it though.

Don't need surround view. Just show us the curbs via the side cameras inside a few HUD screen overlays while in "P Camera Mode".

I’d be happy if we could get the side cameras as a scroll above the rear camera view. That’d be handy imho.
