suspension $8000 fix???!!! 2018 x

I have a 2018 model x with 80K miles. I had it inspected by tesla in end of 2021 and it was in top shape (had breaks replaced and new tires).
I've RARELY driven since then (approx 5K-7K miles in 1.5 years).
I had it checked recently (just for regular maintenance) and they told me my tires and suspension need to be replaced. total cost 8K.
My faith in this brand is gone...I also researched and found there is a class action lawsuit regarding suspension in 2018 model x...

Please tell me a regular mechanic can do this? I absolutely don't want to pay my leg for this...

Yes, any mechanic can do it, suspension is no different than ICE cars.
Its an easy DIY also.
Most likely don't need all that replaced if car drives fine n has no knocks...

Tires are expensive. They wear out. Alignment is also expensive. Both are super expensive if done at Tesla (or any dealer). My mom just paid $3k for a set of tires and alignment at BMW. It can easily be done anywhere.

Oops: you had tires done before you said. Or, not actually clear when tires were replaced from above.

fyi tesla uses specific tires which will cost more... anywhere you go... and yes there are much cheaper alternatives but if choose what tesla prefers then it s much more expensive regardless of installer...

2k is what i paid tesla total for tires... prices go up and down so it s like catching a cold... unlucky u end up short...

"Tesla Specific Tires" are nothing more than low rolling resistance tires with sound dampening foam. Don't lead other people to believe it's anything fancier than that. Sound damping foam isn't new and neither is low rolling resistance tires.

Whenever you take a car into a ANY brands dealership (or in this case Tesla) for a "maintenance check up" or "inspection", this will automatically generate thousands of dollars of "recommended" or "required maintenance".

Took my minivan in for a timing belt change because I didn't feel like messing with it, they too recommended replacement of all four corners of suspension. NOW to their credit, the back dampers were leaking. But they wanted thousands to do it, but I ordered factory parts and replacement myself for literally 1/4 the price.

So, don't lose faith in anything... just understand this is the name of the game. If the car drives fine, move on. If you think something is up, take it to a reputable shop and ask them. Get several opinions. Outside of the battery, drive motor, and controls electronics, much of a Tesla is not that different than any other car.

I’ll tell you right now it’s not just the X 2018 model either. Air Suspension has failed between Model S 2014 to 2022. Some owners on this forum have reported multiple replacements within just 1 year time.

I wonder why this class action lawsuit hasn’t gone “ viral “.

I warned everyone. This is serious. Suspension doesn’t just fail for no reason and you can’t blame it on bad parts, otherwise there would have easily been a recall a long time ago.

and the service center has repeatedly blown off customers about these suspension issues. Hence the class action lawsuit.
