This is a very sad story. Wonder if the driver is one of our members here...

NBCLA just reported that the car had been stolen.
(or wanted to pretend it was stolen --- but due to other corroborating effects, this could probably be ascertained as well)The two circumstances in which I could see a driver fleeing are either that the driver is drunk and doesn't want to be breathalyzed at that point in time, or car was stolen.
This is the troubling part (besides, of course, for the main victim, the motorcycle driver). To me, it would seem better to leave the keys in one's pocket. Perhaps the driver left their purse in the car. Perhaps the driver was mugged and the keys were stolen. Perhaps the driver knew the thief but did not suspect the key theft nor the car theft to happen.Keys left in the car?
I know it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek but, alas, the appearance of such a ludicrous headline isn't so far-fetched given the sensationalist stories of late that mention Autopilot in the same breath whenever a Tesla is involved in a mishap.I can see tomorrow's front page, Driver Blames Autopilot for Hit and Run
Substitute the word "Ford" for "Tesla" and the article becomes a silly attempt to attract clicks. This is a very sad story. Wonder if the driver is one of our members here...

I wanted to laugh but couldn't quite do it in respect for the supposed victim.
"Supposed" victim ??
The owner of the Tesla is a friend of mine. The car was stolen from in front of his house about an hour before the crash. The thief totaled the Tesla and three other cars as well as killing a motorcycle driver. The car was going 100 mph at the time of the accident. The thief jumped out of the car and ran and is still on the loose. Very sad.
