eMMC replacement - how long did yours take?

Well, they got the emmc replaced in the space of 8 hours, but they said they needed another 3 hr next day to update/reload software. At the same time, I got a notice on the app confirming my service appointment on March 24. What? I called back and found out that they had destroyed the...

    Home Link no longer works

Late 2015 Model S. Sommer Direct Drive garage door opener. Home Link would not work with Sommer rolling code, so I had to buy a separate little RF reciever switch wired into the wall button circuit. Worked fine until this week when suddenly nothing. I lost the Sommer remote, so don't know...

Blog Tesla Unveils Tabless Battery Cell That Boosts Range by 16%

Yours was the rookie mistake. You have snarkily misconstrued my post. Perhaps I should more accurately have stated it as more power delivered = more range, but the fact remains that the claim for 4680 tabless design is that it loses less energy (kWh) to heat loss, thereby delivering more power...

Blog Tesla Unveils Tabless Battery Cell That Boosts Range by 16%

Power is what drives the wheels, so more power = more range. kWh in the battery = energy, but only produces power when delivered to the motor(s). If internal resistance in the batteries consumes energy in the form of waste heat. then power is reduced. Tabless 4680 delivers 16% more of its...

Blog Tesla Unveils Tabless Battery Cell That Boosts Range by 16%

"For the same battery capacity (kWh) with front and rear mega casts compared to the old battery without mega casts there is a 16% weight savings." News to me. I never saw a weight savings calculation for mega castings coupled with integrated 4680 pack. Where did you get that info? Tesla's...

eMMC replacement - how long did yours take?

Got an appointment two weeks ago for 1:15pm next Thursday to replace eMMC. Today a message from service says "The goal is to have it completed before 1:15 on [the following day]." WTF? They have the part and they scheduled two weeks out, yet they want me to drop off at 1:15 when, "Your...

I have a weather tight box with lockable cover mounted at my cabin. The outlet it came with is 2 1/8" diameter; not Leviton, but definitely not as robust as those recommended. So no, I can't just install another face plate.

    Speeding Fine!

Photo and radar speed check. Rental company's car, their license number, so they got fined. Adding 17% "value added tax" was insult added to injury. What value was there? But from 6,000 miles away, what could I do?

12/11/2021 - Will they activate StormWatch in the West this weekend

Yep In Southern California, the Santa Ana river flowed so over-full that it wiped out settlements and dragged so much sand, gravel and silt with it that it formed the Balboa Peninsula at what is now Newport Beach, cutting off the San Diego creek from the ocean and creating a new bay.

12/11/2021 - Will they activate StormWatch in the West this weekend

The term has been used in meteorological circles for many years. I think the first such event to be documented as an atmospheric river event was the 45-day storm in 1861-62 that flooded Sacramento and most of the Central Valley.

Thanks for that. One wonders how dealers will handle their "Prioritations"? Would they have to honor the reservation dates of their customers.? Or are they going to be free to extort a "marketing adjustment" out of the reservation holders listed with them in exchange for moving them up in line?

    Musk "Delete tweet"

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

I was wrong about the 500 mile EPA range. I looked it up and found that it was actually 520 miles for the Dream edition and a mere 471 for the Performance version. And you make another assertion without documentation. How exactly has Lucid "lied about battery size"?

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

The plug adapter on the UMC communicates with the onboard charger so it knows what rate of charge it can support. I doubt if the UMC would work at all if directly wired.

Thank you for this thorough review. I just read the post by @gaspi101 about his 14-50 that melted down, likely due to arcing at a loose terminal. I checked mine and it is Leviton. I'm going to Walters Electric Supply tomorrow to get a Bryant. My RV plug box at a vacation house cost me $40...

    Almost burned the house down

I just looked at my NEMA 14-50 outlet but could find no manufacturer info, only NEMA 14-50 stamped on one edge and 240V 50A along the opposite edge. How can I tell if mine is Leviton or not? Maybe I'll pull it tomorrow and see what kind of terminal screws it has.

    Almost burned the house down

"Came off, touched something and bam" does not melt down the outlet case and plug. Shorting to the case would have cause a huge spark, local melting and tripped the breaker instantly. The photo shows no melting of the copper strands, which would certainly have happened in the event of the wire...

FAQ: Home Tesla charging infrastructure Q&A

How long would the total wire path be from panel to outlet at the parking spot? Line loss generally lowers voltage to unacceptable levels at around 100 feet of wire. You may want to increase wire size to the next larger gauge to reduce line loss so your charger will operate better.
  35. brucet999

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

An inverter converts DC to AC. If one uses a 240V AC (There has not been 115/230V service in North America since 1950) outlet, it could connect directly onto the main panel, but code would require a safety interlock to disconnect from the grid first.

PSA: "Battery Coolant Heater" not included in battery warranty

"…diagnosed with the battery coolant heater failure…" Only high tech could produce such an oxymoronic thing as a "coolant heater". I guess "heat exchange medium" is amore cumbersome term than "coolant", but not as counterintuitive when it needs to be heated. :)

    About that "yoke" steering wheel

I hadn't thought about the inability to flash high beams. I do that frequently in order to let drivers (especially trucks) know that I see them signaling and it is safe to change lanes in front of me. If my car had the yoke, this courtesy would become impossible.
