When ordering it asked method of payment. If cash, no checks are accepted . Wire transfer or EFT only, so it needs to be done before delivery.

EFT can easily be done at home, no need for bank visit.

But for you, checks ARE accepted, as you are in california. Many (including myself) have paid with some combination of personal check, "bank check" (a pre approved check from a bank or credit union that is blank but drawn on the banks account, used to fund loans for things where the price is not known), cashiers check, or as you say EFT.

This could have changed in the past 10-11 months since I got my model 3 but in california at least, all those ways to pay were possible.

Its just states that dont allow direct car sales that have the issue of having to pre pay.

I originally ordered a Model 3 on Oct 1, was scheduled for delivery on Oct 9th but couldn't make it to pick up the car in time. I lost out on the car. BUT ... Tesla was willing to take a personal check then - they confirmed it in an e-mail. That was only a month ago.

Frequently Asked Questions - Ordering a Tesla

I bet if you have a good credit rating, they would take a personal check.

But why would you want to use one? I write checks about once every two months or so. EFT is fast and simple.

Of course, adding 5% to my 100%(currently estimated at 283 miles) will come nowhere near the 310 miles I was sold, nor the 322 being advertised. Its still not bad, but I'd be approaching range anxiety if I'd bought a 220 mile SR and lost 40 miles of range in the first year.

im not sure but when I talked to my bank they said yes that’s how Tesla works, they get funds up front. They walked me through getting it funded. I still have 7 days 1000 miles to return if something isn’t right or flat out refuse delivery.
I had the same surprise. I was waiting for a notification of delivery to finalize my loan. I finally got ahold of my delivery specialist, and he acted like I should have known that I needed to issue a full payment before a delivery would be scheduled. The website literally said the next step is Tesla would contact me to schedule a delivery. I think this is definitely something they can communicate better.

It's now displaying 283 miles at 100%? And, when new 310? Mine was 310 (499 km) when new, and after V10 I have 303(488 km) after six months on my LR awd.
