Tesla offered to service my Salvaged Model S but couldnt get access to software due to root

Ive been having a few issues with my car that have been building for a while, Ive ignored them as long as I could but now I need them fixed. Some mechanical, easy to diagnose (wheel bearing) and some software related (error that displays shortly that car may not restart). SO I took my car into Tesla just to see what they could do and they offered to fix it! Which in its self is big news at least for me as they always stuck their noses up to me before because of the rebuilt title of the car.

They couldn't get their computer to communicate with my car, I'm assuming its due to the car being rooted. I dont know but that puts me in a situation where I need to find out what is wrong with my car, so I need access.

I have a cable to connect to my car but no idea how to go about it. Car was rooted by Ingineer

Can anyone help me gather Diag info from my car? Thanks!?!

EDIT: Tesla offered to take my car software back to factory so they could get access

If I allow them to do that will I still have root? And if so can I re-enable supercharger access?

...If I allow them to do that will I still have root?...

I think the answer is obvious.

It looks like non-software-specialist in Service Centers don't know how to reset a rooted car so it needs a software specialist to do that.

Once Tesla works on it, your root will be gone and the car is reset back to as if it's a regular consumer car.

If you still want root access after that, there's nothing to prevent you to re-do it either on your own or hiring some specialists like Ingineer to do that again.

Nice! thank you for that I just wasnt sure, I remember doing roots on different phones sometimes root would survive a software re-deploy some times not.

Is Root still available for newer software versions? If my car goes through this an update would be nice :)

Why not contact @Ingineer? Presumably the car is using his certs and network now (which is why Tesla cannot get in).

On the other hand, seems like you don't know how to use root access anyway...so losing it isn't a big deal. The whole reason @Ingineer roots cars is because Tesla won't let them back into the fold, so he graciously brings them into his world.

Seems you have a chance to get back into the Tesla world...might as well take it.

I am trying to talk with him, he just asks alot of $ for Diag info.

If I can get Tesla to accept the car Then I will be able to do everything except have SuperCharger access, I'll still get updates and use the app and all the joys of feeling official like being able to have them service it! how great.

If I can have root in addition to being on the network then I can enable supercharger access manually when I need it. Best of both worlds, almost like I own a REAL CAR!

If Tesla evaluates your car as safe for supercharging (which is why they blacklist wrecked cars until evaluated) then supercharging should work. Have you asked them?

Tesla starting to finally follow their policy and service these cars might actually force @Ingineer to lower his costs down to something reasonable.

I still hope that Tesla will change their mind on the Supercharging and re-enable it as part of the ~$500 HV inspection process, even if it is pay-as-you go Supercharging. That would be the right thing to do.

I couldnt agree more, they are not stopping supercharging they are forcing people into alternative means of obtaining supercharging!
They are loosing on Money twice, once when I get the electricity for free and another time when they could be charging me..

I would gladly pay for supercharging just like all the other people out there, if they would let, but they wont so I gotta figure it out myself.

I have the same thing going on with @Ingineer having the root access for the car and I would happily pay him the expensive rates to get this fixed, but I cant get him to respond.

What was the ultimate outcome for you? I really dont want to lose supercharging access and would like Phil or some other tesla savant to help but I cant find anybody...

Any ideas?
