The Tesla hate is real

This whole thing can get ugly. I had a brand new Lexus a few years back that was wacked by some kid freely opening their door. I got out of my car and confronted the parents to show them the huge dent their kid just made. The father lied and said he couldn't see anything then accused me if being racist cause the family was black. LOL. I just laugh now. I'm not racist but things like this bring me closer and closer.
Really... smh. Ignorance exists in all races.. closer and closer... omg.

I was born in San Francisco at the dawn of the 70s. Lived there off and on over the decades.

A lot of people mistake this for a rich person’s car because of the S and X...

San Francisco’s homeless are mostly working poor that got priced out of their tiny apartments by wealthy techies... Heck when I was 19 I was homeless out here... it warps your mind to be stealing food while people in fancy cars look at you like a 2-legged rat. I rose up because I have a knack for tech and the GI bill got me into college, many friends fell even further down.

Basically the folks I grew up with are on the streets out here now... and they think, rightly so, that anyone who isn’t homeless is a millionaire... (all my remaining SF friends actually are... and one lives above a porn shop in a hood where we had shootings on the street in broad daylight when I was a kid... family first moved away in fact when the window at the restaurant my stepdad worked in got sprayed with blood while he was standing inside looking out).

So... dramatic account aside...

Income inequality is insane there, and some people are looking to “get even”...

Tesla looks like a wealthy car, so it gets targeted. I expect this to happen more often until people realize the 3 is a middle class car...

Glad I left the city a decade ago...

just found some more damage that i didn't notice til this morning.. the wheel was gouged as well on that side. You can see the scratches on the original photo i posted. This 2 week old car has yet to park next to a curb on the driver side and I know I didn’t curb anything. And curb marks appear on the lip usually. It might be some careless uber passenger swinging their door open. Either way I will never know. And the damage is done. I’m going to try to get the dents addressed tomorrow.
That could have possibly been a bicycle that was squeezed into your car by another driver or maybe one who was not paying attention, just a guess as the scratches on the wheel look like maybe a pedal? maybe they put a foot out to keep from crashing but the pedal still hit?

Mine doesn't have any door dings (yet) because I'm an OCD freak about where I will park it.

Tesla Model 3 is not a "high end car" but it is still financially out of reach for about 90% of people who don't prioritize a car over things like retirement savings, owning a home, etc. The average person who can't afford one doesn't know it costs $50,000, they just know Teslas are crazy expensive. I had someone ask me how much mine cost and guessed it was $80,000.

In the future use the "quote" function when responding to someone since otherwise you look like a loon yelling in an empty room.
It is a high end car... there’s no doubt about that. maybye Tesla’s smaller car but def high end.

Minor in comparison, but on Sunday after my Bears lost I had to drive from Soldier Field to East Lansing, MI to drop son off for school. I parked in a lot by my hotel which has a Tesla charger. Tons of regular spots were available. Came back a little while later to get something out of the car and a pickup and SUV parked right next to me so close I would have a tough time squeezing into car. I only needed to get into trunk. In the morning I just used Summons to pull the car out. Then I went over to the Meijer to get a Starbucks for the drive home. Lot was sparsely populated. Came out and a car again parked super close. Again summons to the rescue.

Tuff loss for the Bears on Sunday.....

This happens quite often to me when I park my NSX in a public lot - it attracts all the drivers that like to park close to other cars. Most people think it is a C5 Corvette, so maybe there is Corvette hate as well ?

[Trying to turn this into a neutral, calm, disinterested thread once again....] -

Has anyone experience on and can share whether the sentiment of this thread's title also exists in BMW, MBenz, Audi and so forth forums?

I can happen to any nice new vehicle. When I bought my nice 4x4 Titan, the day after I got it someone pushed a shopping cart into it and put a cease about 1/2 a foot long into the side. It was probably intentional. It was also the largest parking lot dent it received in 13 years of ownership...The day after I bought it! I was only in the store for 5 minutes too.

I had a fairly new Honda CR-V back in the late 90s. I was hit in the rear passenger door and had a large dent. A couple days later, I drove to work and someone opened their door and but a long crease into the same door. Fortunately they replaced the entire door when I had things repaired so both sets of damage were covered by one insurance claim.

Only related to this thread (hatred of a vehicle) ..... my hatred is grocery carts, and the people that are too lazy to place in the coral; or
let them roll into your car while they deal with the children; or leave them out where the wind will drive them pilotless into whatever is in the way.

i do tend to agree that a shiny clean car is an attractor for mischief, regardless of brand. it is unfortunate though that the Tesla brand gets political. The performance aspect of the cars doesn't seem to outweigh the treehugger/hippie perception of EVs in general.

Oh, get over yourself! A lot fewer people than you’d like to think give a crap what car you drive.

Have you seen that certain category of “drivers” in SF? You would have totally shown that old woman, should you have caught her in the act.
Your first thought should have been “crap, somebody smacked my car with their door” (cause that’s exactly what it looks like).

No, people don't hate your Tesla, least of all in the world capital of commie eco-smugness, nor do they hate mine in my small enclve of whatever’s left of red-blooded Texas (coincidentally, the town with the second-highest percentage of registered Teslas, after SF, per the local Tesla store).
You might take some trips outside of Texas, perhaps. I had an incident where a guy stood in front of our car yelling at us after he nearly hit the front of our car and I tapped the horn. He then tried to get other people to come up to our car, screaming " you don't own the road, FU" etc. There are a LOT of nut cases out there who do take their problems out on Tesla drivers.
