Trying to identify cause of this scratch/melt

This issue is on the inside of the back right door. I had some body work done on the right rear quarter panel and I think this is from that, but I wanted to see if anyone else has other thoughts before I go back to the body shop. The white part looks like it's kind of flaking off. That plastic piece has a texture so the smooth pieces are strange. It also goes under that foam/rubber piece so I don't think it's anything my kid could have done.

I don't know body work / bondo, but I wonder if they dropped/spilled some there and then attempted to clean it up? It's strange that the door would be open, but maybe they were taping it off?

Looks to me they spilled Bondo or similar, and then tried to clean it with abrasive disk on a power tool, damaging the finish of the plastic.

Demand a new trim piece!

Looks like a lightning strike to me
