Regen can be effected by lower battery temps. As we get into fall/winter, the battery temp goes down. As this happens, regen is gradually limited until the battery temp warms up. This could explain your perceived loss of regen.

This could definitely explain my experience - the weather happens to have gotten significantly colder here around the same time as 8.0. In fact I just learned the meaning of the "yellow dashed line" on the regen display. So I'm going to say that there are too many variables for me to say one way or the other whether regen behavior has changed at all for 8.0.
