I'm curious about why having HW2.5 or 3 in the car when you receive it is a concern. Isn't it only going to be important if/when you pay for FSD? And at that point the cost of the upgrade to 3 will be covered anyway. If having HW3 doesn't provide any improvements to autopilot etc, then I'm not sure why people are worrying about this. Or is there some aspect I'm missing?
But who is to say a future version of Autopilot has features that only work with HW3?

According to Musk, HW3 is “at about 5% compute load or 10% with full fail-over redundancy” when handling tasks like Navigate on Autopilot with automatic lane changes. In comparison, Musk noted that HW2.5 is at about ~80% compute load when processing similar tasks.

It's not a significant stretch to think Tesla might come up with more uses for this extra processing power, someday in the future. Quality-of-Life upgrades, OS tweaks, more demanding easter egg games...

If HW2.5 and HW3 cost the same, I know which one I want. All other things being equal, the resale value for HW3 cars will obviously be higher than HW2.5s.

You are on point if you don’t care about those stuff.

Subjectively for me.
1. Unless I get a discount, then it's HW3 or wait for HW3. Why would I want old hardware in my new car?
2. Potential improvement without FSD due to HW3 (completely baseless but there's potential)
3. If (2.) above, then the resell value improves if the next buyer doesn't want FSD.
4. FSD is still early beta in my opinion.

I don't need FSD as I like to drive hard. I will just use AutoPilot for days I am tired and during traffic jam and long pointless highway driving.

Just talked to someone on the 888 number to see if we could get an idea if our vehicle is en route. She said Vancouver is selling more M3s than anywhere else in North America and they have a shortage of trucks to move them.
Interesting. Just curious why you asked about location of your car. I think you said you had a VIN assigned, but why did you say a "tentative" date of June 12th? No fixed appointment time yet? I don't have a VIN, but have an appointment time. That's not "tentative" is it? I've booked a bunch of stuff around it.

Sorry guys I am assuming I shouldn't make a new threat about this. I ordered a SR+ white aero wheels black interior M3 on May 27. Anyone ordered around that date? I'm guessing I should expect the car around 4 weeks as standard?

When I take delivery at the powell location, is there going to be an insurance agent there to deal with new insurance?

I apologize in advance as this is literally the first car I've ever bought.
Thank you!

Have you received a call or text from the delivery center yet? If not, your delivery date is tentative.

From my Delivery Confirmation e-mail:

  • Registration and Insurance: There will be ICBC agents onsite at time of delivery
  • Delivery Day: The delivery process takes around 1 hour
    • Please check in with a Tesla Specialist in the lounge when you arrive
    • Paperwork signing takes about 5-10 mins
    • Insurance takes about 20-45 mins (depending on your questions and complexity)
    • Vehicle Handover 5 mins (please review videos ahead of time to familiarize yourself with your new Tesla)

The text we received said tentative, the account says scheduled.

Ahh, no call or text. Just went from the "scheduled" appointment online. I guess that means the car could still be in transit (to your point) and that they're just trying to line folks up as best they can on a "tentative" basis.

Any idea how early before the delivery date they go firm? I know I won't until after pickup.

My email guy (as well as other anecdotes on this forum) implied that the date/time is to be ignored. For example mine "appointment" is June 14th @ 11am, which is a Friday. I requested only weekend delivery since that is the only time we're able to drive down to pick it up. I also was told there's a good chance it'll arrive for this weekend, however my date still says June 14th, a date they know I wouldn't be able to make it for. So it's only a placeholder for some people.

That's helpful, thanks! It seems to confirm the idea that they slot a bunch of dates in for deliveries, but that some folks will obviously have to shift those around to make the times work, and to deal with any delays in shipment/delivery.

Edited to add: "...and to deal with any delays in shipment/delivery."

Hi all, first time poster. Great forum!

I ordered M3 SR+ white/19" wheels on April 12th for my wife's birthday.

Received appointment on Tesla website and text both scheduling tentative appointment for June 10th. No VIN on website but VIN reveal method has VIN. Called Tesla and they said car was in Tacoma last week and just waiting to be shipped here.

Her birthday is June 15th. What are your bets, will I receive vehicle in time for her birthday?

Final update:

May 2: Ordered
Delivery scheduled: May 29
May 22: I only got it via phone call (subject to change). Showed up on account May 22 shortly after the call.
May 26: Got a phone from Las Vegas telling me that my appointment is looking good, but someone should call me
May 28: Still no call. I e-mailed a person who was supposed to be my delivery specialist and he said I've been assign to someone else and she would contact me "if there needs to be any change"
May 29: Assumed the delivery appointment is a go. Got there, was greeted and waited about an hour before anyone was able to deliver our car. Did insurance, was in and out in about 2 hours.

Already found a defect after delivery. The RF window glass was misaligned and the glass kept hitting the b-pillar glass to the point that you had to use force to close or open the door. Luckily, I didn't damage the glass before I figured out what was happening. Showed up at the Service centre next day with no appointment, they adjusted/fixed the glass in a matter of hours. They gave me a free ride from and to work. Overall positive experience.
