Vredestein Hypertrac vs. Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS?

The best handling would be a summer performance tire. EV specific tires have sound treatment (foam liner) inside the tire that reduces resonances within the tire. Low rolling resistance (LRR) tires have stiffer sidewalls and can use harder rubber compounds that reduce rolling resistance so you sacrifice some tire grip for improved efficiency. You must choose as no one type of tire can excel in all areas of tire performance.

The Vredestein Hypertrac is a new tire design so there is no data or feedback yet.

The Vredestein Quatrac Pro has been available since the Tesla Model Y was delivered in 2020. The Quatrac Pro is an all-season tire, available in 19" and 20" sizes for the Tesla Model Y. Similar efficiency to the OE Continental Procontact RX 19" tires that come with the Tesla Model Y. The Quatrac Pro offers superior grip on wet roads, especially in winter. There is a reason this tire is frequently back ordered; it's a very good all-season tire and costs 1/3rd less than the other brands (Vredestein does not seem to advertise at least not in the US, so they can sell their tires for less $.)

Michelin Pilot Sport is very popular, available in sizes for the Tesla Model Y. There are different PS tires including summer performance, all-season 3, all season 4 high performance all season versions.

Another Michelin tire that performs well is the CrossClimate2 all season tire, efficiency will be lower that with the OE Continental Procontact RX tires that come with the Tesla Model Y with 19" wheels. (The Continental tire has Contisilent foam liner treatment.)

More tire manufacturers are pushing tires with a foam liner. The foam liner can reduce resonant noise from within the tire. This has been shown to be measurable and can be audible under some conditions. In typical driving with the sound system playing you might not notice much difference.

More and more tire repair shops (the national chains) are refusing to repair tires that have a foam liner claiming that there have been failures of tires that have the foam liner after repair. One thing is that it takes more labor to repair a tire that has the foam liner so that more than anything may be why tire repair shops don't like to work on tires with the foam liner.

EV specific tires have been introduced by Goodyear and Michelin. Early feedback on the Goodyear EV tires has been that efficiency is lower than on the OE tires. This may have been due to the tires being new, not broken in. EV specific tires will have some type of sound treatment such as a foam liner.

I have been running the Quatrac Pro’s since September. I confirm the review above.

They have been mostly equal to OEM in efficiency. Certainly they have been far better on winter roads. Simply put, I have been very happy with my choice.

Just installed DWS06+ and have about 100 miles on them. (19” stock size/wheel). They grip really well and allow you to get the power down much better. I found the RX would want to slip and traction control is very good to not let it and will reduce power. Now power out of the gate is stronger and you can really push it into the corner if you want. All in just shy of $1,300 which is about 4-500 cheaper than Michelin. Will test water and snow performance this week while driving to Utah. Also live in Bay Area.
