What are these "hidden" latch points on the sides?

See these two images, first showing the position on the side and the second showing that pressing on the top and then lifting from the bottom exposes a small bar/latch point below the spring-loaded cover. This is on my 5-seater delivered in December.

For what purpose is this? Does this have something to do with child seats (I know about the mount point on the back of the seats themselves)?

Mounting point for a shelf to cover up things in the rear luggage area, or for animal/cargo "fences"?

Possibly for cargo net if one was offered. Maybe future accessory or 3rd party will create one.

Maybe just a place to secure cargo ties/straps to keep stuff from moving around.
