Will Tesla offer suspension upgrade ?

Here in Australia we have the Shanghai built MYs - I've driven both July22 and Dec22 registered demo cars and noticed a difference in suspension just between those 5 months; the latter being less bumpy (noting that the MY only launched here in July 2022)

Can't wait to try out the Jan23 onward models with the 'comfort suspension'

I live in Hong Kong and its also the same spec (Shanghai build). I test drove the base version with 19” wheels which was a 2022 make ( although he wouldnt say which month). I really liked the car but the suspension is what is holding me back. It’s way too firm! Way worse than my coil springed 2015 model S which was I thought too tightly sprung.

The comfort suspension is rumoured but not confirmed by the sales staff. I can’t place an order unless they address this. Especially on rough roads its just too uncomfortable which is such a shame because I really like the rest of the package.

I DIY’d the 2023 LR springs, shocks and dampeners on my wife’s 2021 LRMY w 28k miles. It’s truly night and day difference. Even my wife says it’s less harsh and feels more solid (better handling.) About $900 w tax from Tesla. I’ll add all the part numbers later.

Here are the latest (as of April 2023) part numbers for new 2023+ Comfort Suspension components. These apply to US-built units only.

Model Y Long Range:

• Front Left: 1188363-00-H
• Front Right: 1188368-00-H
• Rear Shock: 1188463-00-E
• Rear Spring: 1188474-00-C

Model Y Performance:

• Front Left: 1188371-00-F
• Front Right: 1188376-00-F
• Rear Shock: 1188465-00-F
• Rear Spring: 1188475-00-D

----------------------------------------------

Helpful Notes:

• A MY LR owner could elect for a MYP comfort suspension to get a lower stance on their MY LR.
• Some have previously speculated that rear shocks or springs haven't changed, however looking at the catalogs and confirming with Tesla Parts, these are the latest revisions for US-built units as of April 2023.
• From a posting 04/26/2023 by another member, it looks like GigaBerlin builds have a newer part revision for rear hardware on the 2023 Model Y Performance. I haven't confirmed the 2023 MYLR yet, but would assume part changes as well. Again, only applies to owners taking deliveries built in GigaBerlin (and maybe GigaShanghai, can't confirm the catalog in Chinese).

Wonderful!!! When you say DIY - you installed yourself or used an auto pro shop. Also, the rear parts - you have to buy 2 each ?

I tried to buy the upgraded parts in Brooklyn Service Center and they would not sell to me. Where can I buy the parts??
Let me know how it goes, I'm in Brooklyn as well. Been wanting an upgrade, but don't have the technicality nor the infrastructure to do it. Posted a feedback on another thread as I paid $65K (overpriced) for MY, yet can't get a decent ride quality without breaking my back (you know the potholes in NYC), mod said I'm too entitled.

Unfortunately they would not sell me the parts. I am hoping someone on this thread can share what Service Center sold them

Since his SC WOULD sell him parts, maybe have AtlantaMCR buy them for you and ship them to you
They wont do that.

Basically you have to start a service request for harsh suspension/ride. Then you have to talk service into ordering the parts for you to DIY/have another shop do it or you have to make contact with the parts guy at your Service Center. More than a few are still getting rejected.

More info on trying to order.

I owned a Model 3 from 2018-2022, and last year upgraded to a Model Y Performance. A year into it, my wife and I are both tired of feeling every bump, pothole, pebble, on the road. I got the performance bc it was the only thing available at the time, not bc I care about the speed. Now, I'm considering downgrading to a LR bc I've heard the ride is smoother.

Has anyone else done similar? Was it worth it? Or would this just be a waste and I should trade-in for an old/used X or get a non-tesla. Seems crazy that this $60k car is so uncomfortable to drive.

Fwiw, I think the Model Y is the perfect car if it had air suspension.

Yeah, from what I understand, this is a complaint a lot of folks have had with the performance models. I had a 2019 Model 3 Long Range, and I placed an order for a new Model Y that I will be picking up on Monday. With the small price difference, I was leaning towards getting the Performance model, but after doing some research, I decided on the Long Range and will just add the $2k acceleration boost upgrade. I also already purchased some aftermarket 19” wheels. So in the end, it’s basically costing me the same as the performance model, and indeed my car will be slightly slower, but will have a much better ride quality.

I forgot which channel, but there is YouTube channel where the owner had a Model Y Performance and recently traded it in for the Model Y Long Range for the same exact reason. I remember watching the video a while back and that is what convinced me to go with the Long Range.
