Apple Carplay with a WIFI Box

Any idea how much Hotspot data is used per month for Waze or Google Maps navigation? I want to know if I should switch to a different plan with AT&T.

The same-day trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back

I want to clarify some of the information I left out from the original post: 1. I don't speed 2. Rural roads mentioned were undivided highways with two lanes in each direction at 55 MPH. 3. I significantly lowered my speed when I encountered heavy fog conditions 4. I believe that only...

Cannot use autopilot for more than 15-30 minutes

Keeping hands on the steering wheel and continuously applying light force becomes tiring after a while. I would prefer something similar to Ford's approach that tracks your eyesight using an onboard camera. The other issue is off-ramps and on-ramps. When I approach an off-ramp, the car takes a...

The same-day trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back

I had not seen some of my classmates for nearly 48 years, and when an opportunity presented itself, I dashed over there for an afternoon full of tales coupled with food and drinks. Stopped in four SuperCharger locations: Kettleman, San Jose (Capital Express), Gustime, and Bakersfield - no...

    Tesla Loan from Wells Forgo

I got my loan approved via Tesla with Wells Fargo the same day I picked up the car. The Sales/Delivery Rep informed us that they had a car matching my order on the lot and asked if we wanted it. We said, "Yes, but we don't have the loan pre-approved". He said it was not an issue and called back...

    Premium connectivity vs tethering

Upon retirement, I decided to be frugal and not overspend on frivolous items: I use Waze, ABRP, or Google Maps for route planning and traffic visualization on my iPhone Stream audio over Bluetooth or play FLAC music from a USB stick. I have a data plan with AT&T that allows using the hotspot...

Phantom braking in my new Model Y

I feel for you. I am not sure what the tech can do at any SC since PB issues should be dealt with at the corporate level.

    Destination Chargers

If $/Whr is reasonable on Level 2 chargers, I would take that option anytime over DC to preserve battery life and free up some of my own time.

Discussion: HW.4 Suite - Availability, retrofit, suitability etc.

If you are not in the rush, I would postpone delivery and wait for Tesla to start making vehicles with Hi-Res, wider FOV Cameras, and Hi-Res Radar, and the code to take advantage of new capabilities. Also, I would wait for user feedback before committing to purchase.

Phantom braking in my new Model Y

It seems that Tesla will be re-introducing Radar, albeit a much higher resolution one than before, coupled with hi-res 2 front cameras. https://driveteslacanada.ca/news/tesla-hw4-to-reduce-forward-facing-cameras-to-2-and-add-fan-b-pillar-camera-to-get-new-heating-device/

I agree about the camera setup. The key statement, IMHO, is at 6:21 into the presentation.

Phantom braking in my new Model Y

Phantom Braking will not go away as long as Tesla utilizes Tesla Vision as the only passive sensor of information. The inclusion of active sensors such as Radar or Lidar will mitigate the problem that Tesla Vision can't deal with on its own. Sorry for the bad news folks.

Slideboard Loading, Need Tips for Handicap Passenger

I have a similar issue with one of my family members. The car seats are too high for a slide board and the lack of grab handles makes the problem even worse. Optimal Charging Amperage

Distinction between watts and watt-hours[edit] The terms power and energy are closely related but distinct physical quantities. Power is the rate at which energy is generated or consumed and hence is measured in units (e.g. watts) that represent energy per unit time. For example, when a light...

A road trip from LA to Penticton BC via Redwoods CA, Portland OR, Seattle WA, and Vancouver BC, and back

I didn't pay too much attention to gas prices along the way. I did not notice prices above $6.50US per gallon anywhere, but my point was that there is not a significant cost difference between BEV and ICE as I had expected. I am still enjoying my Tesla Model Y regardless.

Phantom braking so bad I want to return my car

I am not sure I understand your statement correctly, but I have never been late on my payments. Yet, I have experienced several PB events which made my rides less than pleasant. A hi-res radar coupled with a Vision system would probably prevent 99% of PB events in the future, IMHO.

    2022 Model Y - USB Data Ports - USB-A Glovebox Only

You are right that the glovebox drive can be partitioned for DashCam and Music, or connect two separate USB devices via USN Hub. And, I totally forgot to mention the USB Controller issue. I wanted to separate data traffic to/from MCU via two USB data channels rather than just the one in the...

    2022 Model Y - USB Data Ports - USB-A Glovebox Only

When I wrote essential, I meant to me. I don't speak for others since there is no way to tell what is essential and what is not to each owner. You may have a different perspective. I just completed a 3K Mile trip, as the only driver, and having over 20GB worth of music in FLAC format was essential!

    2022 Model Y - USB Data Ports - USB-A Glovebox Only

First, Tesla removed data capability in the center console, citing a lack of chips, but one can still buy an after-market module to connect to the data cable from MCU. Now, they removed the data cable itself forcing owners to go through additional hoops to restore essential functionality.

I truly had a lot of fun driving my one-month-old 2022 Model Y LR. The pros: Comfort, Cost, No ICE vehicles blocking charging stalls. The cons: A non-working supercharger forced a 100-mile detour without feedback from Tesla NAV. - Had to pull over to search for available superchargers, A...
