Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Hope they are selling in Pennsylvania. In SoCal you can walk just about anywhere just stepping on Teslas. Up here on the Oregon coast we still wave at each other.

    FSD Beta v11.x

Driving up Interstate 5 recently, I found that putting minimal lane change on was basically restricting it to me making my own lane change choices. I had best success with Average and no minimal lane changes. My car would move into the left to pass, and get back into the right lane if there...

Anyone here know how Rivian is doing with their sales of vans to Amazon? If they are making money there, it can carry the company while they work things out with their trucks. They certainly appear to be making a lot of Amazon vans.

    Wow. that is confusing.

Supercharger - Salem, OR - SE. Mission St. (LIVE Jun 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

Stopped by the Tesla service shop in Salem today. The service bay looks closed still, but the showroom is open and looks very nice. The superchargers are still bagged. I wonder if I will be able to take delivery of my new Plaid there instead of in Tigard.

    FSD Beta v11.x

I notice that article was from 2020, 3 years ago. So where is the level 3 they promised?

    FSD Beta v11.x

When I bought my MX in 2020, I paid what I thought was a lot for a product that was not developed yet; I wanted to be part of its growth and see what happened. Since then I have experienced a lot of versions of FSD that were interesting but unusable. Recently on v11 I have found I can drive 50...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I agree that this post about the advantages of Tesla is excellently thought out and written. I believe it is a mistake to dismiss the comment about EV’s being “shoved down peoples’ throats” however. That perception is not being created by Tesla; it is being created by government with all of...

    1) zero 2) only the test drive 3) yes. Did not order until the wife had a chance to ride in it though.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Serious question. Where would you think Tesla should put Superchargers to create basic charging coverage for Alaska?
  13. totoro722

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

We think that, but not everyone does. I run into objections like “Teslas are so ugly”,” I don’t like Elon’s politics”, “I only buy German cars”, “Electric cars SUCK”. These objections are not amenable to education IMO

Model X (only) - FSD beta

When I drive locally, I use the minimal lane change option, which will pop up when the autopilot stalk is twisted (used to change following distance). The other way to have more control of lane changes is to not set a destination. Then FSD will engage, but just stay in its lane for the most part.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

An automated corridor might not be that difficult or expensive. Just standardizing road markings and signage so they can be easily and consistently read by the vehicle would increase the reliability of current FSD quite a bit. Actually, it would sure make sense to do that nationwide if the...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Anyone get 11.3.5 yet? Drove 11.3.3 from south Orange County to Redwood City and back over the weekend. Included driving through very narrow and windy roads in the Berkeley hills. Excellent highway driving including lane choices. Very good on city streets with exception of disengagement...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I understand your point, however Southern California may not be a good comparison. In SoCal what car you drive is one of the main ways people express their identity. Those opting for an EV are making a values statement. There are many other choices in ICE vehicles that are getting a lot of...

Car passing you on 2 lane road!

I have similar behavior from my X when being passed. It is annoying that the car feels it needs to take evasive action, but it has never gone out of its lane doing that. I will be interested to see if 11 improves that. I think we all want all of our problems fixed by 11, however it will still...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The talk of a Tesla price war seems to me to be sometimes misjudged. I think Tesla is intentionally involved in a price war: against ICE vehicles. The mission is to transition drivers from ICE to electric, so successfully competing against ICE is needed to move the mission forward. How other...

    FSD 11.3.2 on the Highway

That is a change that concerns me. I wonder if that function has just been moved somewhere else. I know my follow comfort zone might be a bit larger than most other people would choose

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

You may be right about some people as passengers, however I suspect others will be gnashing their teeth and worrying over every minute. Not everyone will react the same way.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I recall a time when speed limits were largely observed. During the 1970’s Arab Oil Embargo, the highway speed was dropped from 65 to 55 to reduce fuel consumption. At that point, massive disobedience of speed limits emerged as people were too angry to go along with 55 mph. Once that behavior...

Paint, OTOH, is quick and easy … and nasty to deal with. I think you are very right that the Cybertruck will get a lot of attention.. Just not sure it will all be positive.
  26. totoro722

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I anticipate that Cybertruck will have a very different experience from Tundra. Tundra was very much in the mold of Chevrolet, Ford, and RAM trucks. There is a strong preference for Japanese cars on the West Coast, so they did well in California. Cybertruck brings something radically...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Monetary policy works primarily on demand, which has historically been how government deals with economic ups and downs. Fiscal policy can and should be used to stimulate supply. The present administration has been focused on stimulating more demand and stifling supply. This does not appear...

A Dark Night...All Alone At a Supercharging Station in the Middle of Nowhere!

Looks like it might work, but would have pretty limited use. If deployed, one could disconnect from inside the car, dumping the charger (and the device probably) onto the ground, enabling one to drive off. Sort of a one use device. I wonder if the pressure needed to push the charger out of...

    Supercharger - Sutherlin, OR

I do, actually. The distances on the coast tend to be more than I think you expect. The destinations often have little or no charging, and are not going to require hours of stay either.

ChargePoint chargers on the road, just as backup for Tesla Supercharger

I used ChargePoint for a couple of years with a non-Tesla car before getting my MX. I found it to be reliable and readily available. Based on your described route, I doubt you will need anything besides the Supercharger network. Both the 5 and 101 are well served with Superchargers. I drive...

They somehow made the Cybertruck look worse

Hmmm. Squared off front looks more boxy, more like a conventional pickup truck. Not an improvement to my taste. I wonder if it will fit in a garage in this version.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Would somebody who disagrees care to point out something about Tesla vehicles that is a "luxury" feature? Falcon wing doors, air suspension.
  39. totoro722

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Very true. Going to a premium luxury model is definitely niche. The margins on those vehicles can be quite high though
  40. totoro722

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I wonder if Tesla would do better with the S and X if they moved the price up, but also went more full-on luxury, with nicer interior materials and a bit more fancy gadgets. Really create a separation from the 3 and Y.
  41. totoro722

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I would hate to see Tesla abandon a position in luxury cars to focus exclusively on the more “affordable” product line. I get that Elon wants to sell as many electric cars as possible as part of his focus on electrification, but I think there will always be a market for higher end cars for...

Supercharger - Salem, OR - SE. Mission St. (LIVE Jun 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

I will be glad to see another supercharger in the area, however the service center is a BIG DEAL! Those of us living on the coast should have service that is at least reasonable to drive to. Driving 2.5 hours to Portland for service is just too much.

Supercharger - Irvine, CA - 19100 Von Karman Ave. (permit expired)

Something funny going on here. The Superchargers in Irvine are usually very busy (except on Main Street), but only 8 stalls? How does that address the need?
  44. totoro722

Supercharger - Newport, OR (LIVE Jun 2023, 8 V3 stalls)

That is confusing. It still lists the project as EV Charging Stalls - Safeway Newport. They share a parking lot with Ace. I guess we just don’t know where in that parking lot the chargers will go. Looking forward to finding out.

Remember when Elon tweeted that the x/y would NOT be offered round wheel option?

Has anyone seen one of these steering wheel alternatives to the yoke yet? It appears there are still no stalks, and I am guessing the same capacitive buttons as on the yoke. For my taste, that is not enough of an improvement. The buttons sound like a poor alternative to the stalks. Anyone...
