Update on Heathrow: I've just swung by again and all the charging points are open, although didn't get more than 160kW on the V3. I guess the feedback got to the right person. You have to take a ticket to get in, but the barrier is up on the exit lane at the moment so no time limit.

For info - the Superchargers at Heathrow T5 are mostly out of action. All the 250kW versions are shut down and being used by the hotel for customer parking. They've been removed from the in-car map so this is likely a permanent change. Many vehicles queueing today followed by problems as they...

    Extra range estimation while driving

The trip computer now takes temperature into account. It's possible that its map of the UK is quite granular and at that point in your journey the temperature increases noticeably in its model, which gives a greater predicted range from that point.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I've got my order in for the SolarEdge stuff, but from an electrical point of view it's going in with wiring in place for a battery, but that will have to come later.

Rumour of free premium for leases cars ending

I would expect it to run for the 12 months free that you get with a normal purchase (as was described on the website). Don't mind paying after that point and was expecting to. I guess it comes down to the nitty-gritty of the lease agreement, but if it's salary sacrifice then the lease company...

    Tesla Screen (Dangerous)

If the wrong-sided cars are evenly spaced then that knocks every other bay out of commission to Tesla drivers, but ironically leaves it available to another non-Tesla vehicle.

Depending the layout, if they open the UK superchargers to other brands that means that on a full bank of 12 V3, it's possible for only 6 cars maximum to charge if they are using the wrong side. With funky layouts that can drop to a maximum of 4 or 5 cars. I doubt Tesla is going to be asking...

Existing Rolec Wallpod:EV or New Tesla Gen 3

I replaced a PodPoint one with a Tesla Gen 3 from eBay, mainly because the Podpoint charger looked bloody awful on the side of the house. Tesla vision only - no radar from 2022 Q2 cars

You don't need binocular vision to infer depth, it's just one of the ways to do it. Perfectly acceptable to use relative size and position / occlusion to do the same thing and that's how many humans work.

    Michelin CrossClimate 2 issues

CC2 are less than £600 for four, fitted. Yeah, it's a lot of money but it's 1% of the price of the car and can be budgeted for at £25/month over two years, which is what I do for tyres. Speed should be appropriate to the conditions and the problem you face is that with a mixture of tyres you...

    Michelin CrossClimate 2 issues

Maybe don't buy a £60,000 car if you can't afford to run it safely? It's not just you that's affected, it's the person in the opposite lane that encounters the back of your car heading towards them at 60mph after you've spun out on a cold, wet, bend.

Left turn signal automatically comes on by itself in Autopilot

I think EAP assumes that all motorways work like US freeways, where the inside lane becomes the sliproad. Mine occasionally indicates left and wobbles sometimes when in this situation, exacerbated if there's an arrow painted on the road. It's never actually changed lane or left the motorway...

Here's how to charge with 32A commando in UK

I think if you have a look at the inside of a wall charger you'd be surprised. They're just a couple of contactors and not particularly chunky ones at that. Most of them are internet connected and nearly all have a Raspberry Pi inside. This is arguably massive overkill for a charger and is...

Added advantage at Rugby is that if the Superchargers are busy, you can just hop onto a Gridserve charger. Doesn't make you friends, admittedly, but since they're all going to get to play on Tesla chargers in the near future, who cares?

New Nissan chargers …help needed please

Fix found for AP panic alongside HGVs

Anyone with AP knows that it can have a tendency to get upset when passing HGVs that are straying too close or slightly over their lane lines while the driver takes a dump or cooks breakfast or something, and the violent phantom-braking and aborts when changing lane towards and HGV with EAP...

Just as a warning to anyone planning to charge at Newport Pagnell over the next few days - don't. It's being used as a temporary car park by the construction crews working on the M1 smart motorway upgrade. There are 10 chargers but they're blocking at least 6, so everyone is squashed onto...

Charger with both circuit load management AND total load management

You need two CTs. One of them configured on the Zappi as "GRID", and this will protect your 100A fuse. The other needs to be configured as "MONITOR" and placed around the feed to your garage and added to a group capped at 32A. Might be worth checking that you definitely have a 100A fuse on your...

    Charging Speeds @ Home

Not bothered. Partly because it's a Grade 2 listed house with the electricity pipe running under equally listed cobbles out the front and I couldn't face the fight with the council for planning permission, but mostly because I'm moving home in a few months anyway.

    Charging Speeds @ Home

I'm at the very end of the ancient piece of leaky pipe that brings electricity in to my street and looped off my neighbour's supply, so the voltage is often down at about 210V at the car and about 215V at the meter head when drawing a full 32A. Tesla AC chargers are pretty ambivalent about...

How dangerous to leave house with only phone key?

A long trip usually means I've got my wallet with me, which has a keycard in it. Otherwise it's phone only. If I get stranded then hopefully someone can bring the spare key out. New Highway Code Rules

    New Highway Code Rules

If it's the lane you're talking about, cyclists absolutely do not have priority at junctions. Instead the main road has priority and they hit Toucan crossings, which use radar to wait until the main road is empty or a two-minute time-out elapses, when they finally change. Why would you use...

    New Highway Code Rules

Sure. But only if drivers get fined for using minor roads if a motorway or A-road is available, even if this doubles or triples the journey time. They must also stop and give way at every junction, and no investment will be made to repair damage or grit them in cold weather. Motorways will also...
